What Richard Stallman’s Hateful Eulogy to Steve Jobs Really Means

You need to read that article if you don't know the backstory, but what struck me as partially hyperbolic but also partially true was the article's closing:

Quote:
Just as assuredly as you created the free software movement, Richard, you destroyed it. The free software movement is dead. Eulogize that.

Come to think of it, this is the first I've heard of the guy in ages. And though the movement spawned tons of the foundational blocks of software much of the modern inventions run on it also seems that the innovation and impact that is emanating from it is waning as well.

I personally think it's in a lull of decreased relevance. It will find ways to contribute again, and as significantly as ever.

@Robert Gentel,
Does the author have any idea of what he is talking about?
Don't you think if the free software movement was dead, Linux and and other open source movements would be dead as well.

@Val Killmore,
Well this one thread is a year old (if you didn't check the date) and you're right.

The open source/free software movement is doing quite well. See Mozilla and Firefox:
