The old dog finally kicked.

Dobie, half Alaskan Eskimo, half Golden Retriever. Born the summer of 1991, she died Sunday after a very long and good life. Never one to pass up chasing a ball or hating golf on TV, she was very old and is finally relieved of the stress of getting up.
Kids took it well, the 7 year old was happy actually as Dobie is in heaven now and can chase balls again. Had to dig through the rocky dirt again, but worth the effort. Second dog we have had to bury, but at least this one was mostly expected.

I was doing OK after having to put down my 16 year old Lab. Then, 2 weeks later, the vet sent a condolence card with the words, "You did the most compasionate thing for your dog . . .' I really lost it then.

@sullyfish6,
Sorry McG, We are dog and cat lovers. The cats can handle themselves pretty good but the dogs are unconditionally attached to our hearts.

However old they are, it always sucks to lose a family member. Sounds like Dobie had a good life with loving people.

Commiserations, McGentrix. A long & good life & (by the sounds of it) a gentle, timely death. What more could a loyal family dog ask for?

McGentrix, you have my condolences for your loss.

Wow, 18 years old for half Alaskan Eskimo, half Golden Retriever sized dog. Very long life indeed.

@McGentrix,
Sorry to learn of your loss. I experienced the same thing with my 13 year old lab cross (Kelsey) in April.

She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader. See will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of her heart. You owe it to her to be worthy of such devotion.

@McGentrix,
Dobie must have been such a magnificently softy of a pooch.

Look at that huggable neck! Sad
