"For Better or For Worse" creator Lynn Johnston will be the guest of honor this Friday at "The Doug Wright Awards for Canadian Cartooning" ceremony in Toronto.
At the event, Johnston is being inducted into the "Giants of the North" -- the Canadian Cartoonists' Hall of Fame. There will also be a retrospective of her more than 30-year career, a moderated Q&A with the audience, and a book signing with Johnston.
"For Better or For Worse" runs in more than 2,000 newspapers worldwide via Universal Press Syndicate, which introduced the comic in 1979. The strip is currently in a hybrid format that includes new and old material.
Johnston -- whose feature has been collected in more than 30 books -- previously won many other honors. For instance, she was the first woman (in 1986) to win the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award as top cartoonist of the year, and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1994.
Two years earlier, Johnston became a Member of the Order of Canada, and she has also won a Gemini Award for her animated "For Better or For Worse" TV series.
