You really haven't thought your idea through, have you?
Workers are workers precisely because they need the money to buy the goods they need/desire. How many people do you know of that have supplies stocked up to last them more than a few days? Those workers that walked out and left a store wide-open wouldn't have jobs to go back to - they'd be fired and sitting in their apartments with no electric service, water or sewers.
And those people stealing wouldn't necessarily buy into your idea of it being non-violent. You've never heard of armed robbery?
