PS:
Also had my first kiss at one of the many dances with the girls' camps. And the guy who used to re-tell all the wondeerful Ray Bradbury stories: his name was Chip - bless him for turning me into a sf / fantasy fan.
PPS: more great memories:
first time I ever heard Jethro Tull, and hearing "Honky Tonk Women" for the first time, and waking up to Mountain's "Mississippi Queen" blasting over someone's stereo.
PPPS: Art Maher pahking his cah in havahd yahd! The 'new' rec room - the moon landing on TV in the old rec room; hearing The Who 'Live At Leeds" for the first time. I could go on, but I won't!
PPPPs - Bob Gehorsam - my best friend - fallen off the face of the earth apparently.
Hey there lovesick! You posted a new thread when you meant to (I think) respond to the cape cod thread. Which is ok. Just letting you know....
Namequoit as Fiorillo recalls
wow...I somehow got directed here on a google search...I being the Lou Ferigno that was mentioned in a much earlier post...I read all the posts while recalling my memories of the years spent at Namequoit as a counselor. MANY stories if anyone cares to share...including why I was hired as the sailing director in 83 (I think)...and The sinking of the CJ( or near sinking) ...Thor...you out there. I'll check back..
Re: More Namequoit
I was at Namequoit from the mid-50's throught the mid-60's. Would love to hear from anyone else of that era. I'm still a sailor, weekends on LI Sound, and we summer in Truro.
Any of the Btaon Rouge/Bunkie crew still out there?
@cagey91,
I attended Namequoit just one season--1958--when I was 14. I don't remember anybody's names except Steve Gessner who wound up at George School with me one month later. I remember learning to sail in Turnabouts and Mercurys and being told constantly to "Trim the jib!" on the Cape Cod Knockabout. I've been sailing ever since and now have a Captain's license and teach sailing on the Hudson River. I've owned nine sailboats, from an 11' Mini-Fish to a 31' Hunter. I currently sail a Pacific Seacraft Dana 24. Namequoit was obviously a good experience for me. So good that I sent both of my sons to sailing camp when they were old enough (Camp Portanimicut, originally on Cape Cod but at the time located in Union, ME). Both of my sons have Captain's licenses and one of them owns Sea Tow South Shore (Massachusetts Bay). Doug Maass, Sleepy Hollow, NY
