Whole House Water Filter System

Hello. New to the site and have enjoyed reading the banter between H20_Man and Andy Slusser, et al. Related question to same topic.

I am considering a whole house water filtration system. I am located in Southern California I am on city water and the water here is hard enough to seriously corrode the pipes. I am currently using Culligan for the soft water to protect the plumbing. I use a water distillation system for my drinking water and will continue to distill my drinking water.

My goal is to get my own whole house water filtration system to:
(1) get rid of the monthly bill to Culligan ($56.00 to swap out the tank)
(2) get clean chlorine free (minimal trihalomethanes) water for bathing
(3) get clean (minimal contaminants, VOCs, etc) water for bathing
(4) have the water soft enough to protect my plumbing
(5) reasonable price/minimal maintenance system purchase or DIY

Would appreciate suggestions and discussion on the pros and cons of suitable systems. Thanks

P.S. Gary and H20_MAN I have visited your websites (nice job) but still looking for a little more guidance from you two and anyone else with expertise on this issue.

Welcome to Able2Know and thanks for the kind words.

You did a fine job describing your situation, wants and needs.

No surprises with my recommendation:
EcoWater ERR 3500R20 or the higher capacity ERR 3500R30.
The most efficient softener available anywhere.
The system is designed for chlorinated city H2O.
Contact your local dealer for detailed information.

BTW, what distiller are you using?
Mine is an old DOL-FYN like this.

And it was raining salt pellets.

I get all my water pre-dehydrated. It comes in little caplets that I just drop in regular tap water and Voila WATER. Although I must admit since I started using the pre-dehydrated water my shadow has stopped doing what I was so I had it surgically removed. (it's now following Gus around the swamp)

Dys, I was talking to a few friends today, about you, and they refused to believe you existed.

It was not until the story of the coyotes and owls came to light did the flicker of acceptance register in their eyes.

Mitzi Gaynor had the same problem I did with the shadow stuff, she was the first to have it surgically removed. Mitzi and I are now very intricate. I phone her every sept 17th and leave a message on her machine and she has her machine get back to my machine. We are expecting a little machine next april.

I'm married to one of you, or are there three of you? Some claim that, well, you know. Anyway, I can't take it anymore, one is more than enough, so tell me, am I married to god?
