It is clear that the Ash Can artists did appreciate Seurat's subject matter and tried to portray American scenes which were down-to-earth and rather gritty. Art historians have had a tendency to debunk the concept of the Ash Can school as any kind of art movement. The period of the Muckrackers is not over -- they exist in the endless internet babble on Blogs, et al.
