There are several Hawaiian restaurants in our area that sells the spam musubi. With Hawaiian music in the background, it feels just like Hawaii. Laughing

we passed on the SPAM in hawaii and instead enjoyed a LAVAFLOW -
very refreshing indeed - hardly noticed the alcoholic contents - but noticed the ship swaying a lot more when we got aboard !

Babygurl, click on the food and drink forum - you'll see the words towards the top of the page, and you'll find many topics on food.

Also check the medical news and health forum - there will be lots of eating-related issues there.

If nothing else, look at the top of the page, click on forums, and see the array of possible subjects and threads listed under those sugjects.

Most of the people who say they hate Spam are people who've probably never had it.

I'm with sglass. I always have a can of Spam handy for a quick throw-together meal. The Hawaiians know good stuff when they taste it. unlike so many mainlanders.

Well, my life-long love affair with canned food is sardines. I don't eat sardine as a regular diet food, but I love it when I do eat it - about four or five times a year.

A tin of sardines and a couple of hard-cooked eggs make a wonderful camp-out breakfast. Add a garden-fresh tomato, cut into wedges, and you have a feast fit for the gods (including Madame Pele).

they never offered us any SPAM when we were enjoying our LAVAFLOW watching the hawaiian sunset - they did have a nice dish of freshly marinated shrimps with macadamia nuts for us (must have been almost as good as SPAM ?).

I put tinned sardines in fish soup... (with tomatoes and potatoes and roasted onions and and and)

I only wish I was near a fresh seafood market with marinated anchovies (not the tinned bodies of salt, though I cook with those too.)

I've never had fresh sardines or fresh marinated sardines. Guess I need to take a trip..

On spam, I remember the taste of it from almost 50 years ago. Don't need a booster taste of it.

I'll admit to having liked canned Vienna Sausages. Sigh. With canned white potatoes. That was around the time I liked canned spaghetti.

ossobucco :
if you like ANCHOVIES , you may also like KIELER SPROTTEN (english : sprats) . they are sardines - usually from the baltic sea - that have been smoked . they taste best warm from the smoker - my mouth is starting to water !
we can also buy them at our danish deli in town - they are tinned and don't have that delicious smell when they are just coming out of the smoker .
we've had smoked whitefish while on manitoulin-island - it was excellent !

Yeah I ate it when I was a child. Also, senior year in high school my friend made a spam (yes believe it or not) casserole. We went away for the weekend and it must have been the only thing she knew how to cook. Why do I remember this? Certainly not because it was a wonderful yummy thing, but rather because it is vile.

Linkat, Just goes to prove not everybody has similar tastes and appetite for different kinds of food. If you say that in Hawaii, people will probably wonder where you're from.
