Handful of dried goldenberries.

Superfood, apparently. Tomorrow I shall be young and athletic again.

made up a small bowl of cut up grapes, pineapple, banana
stared at it
sprinkled on about a tsp of hot chocolate powder
stared at it some more
decided it was worth trying
tried it
polished it off
the teeny teeny tiny choco chips in the powder mix made it all seem decadent

jalapeno bacon
First time ever. It was a little tough to chew, but I really liked it.

@edgarblythe,
Hmm, how do you (or they) do that, I wonder. I've had them together, but in with other stuff in my always varying burritos.

Thought I posted that I had a bowl of almost the last of the carne adovado-and-other-stuff soup (previously described, still good). Must have skipped the reply button.

@ehBeth,
I'm saving that, in case I ever run into any pork belly (closest market now is Walmart, urrg. Hate that the place I've liked for ten years has closed.)

@ossobuco,
I see pork belly in nearly every grocery store near here - probably because there are so many Chinese and Vietnamese people in this area. I'd been wondering what I could do with it, other than making my green bean/pear/bacon dish.

Jalapeno bacon would be a nice alternative (imagining it on pizza or with mac n cheese or stuffed french toast)

omelette with green onion/ham/gouda/tomato on half a Serbian flatbread (lepinja)

http://www.europeancuisines.com/Balkan-Serbian-Croatian-Bosnian-Lapinja-Lepinje-Somun-Flat-Bread-Recipe

Quote:
The quality that makes lepinje stand out from other central and eastern European flatbreads is its beautifully tender, spongy, English muffin-like interior, which is due to the dough's three rises

the ladies at the Serbian bakery seem to be afraid that Canadians can't deal with lepinja - so they tell us they're selling us soft buns

mmmm no that 's lepinja

@ehBeth,
Me too. I bought some buns at Walmart that aren't all bad, when I didn't feel like making Terni bread.

Looks at package. Ciabatta buns. Well, sure I can make those - I used to like La Brea bakery's version, then tried Carol Field's cookbook version. These Walmart buns are a poor substitute for those, but not awful.
Store stuff often has preservatives, sometimes many, and mostly isn't all that interesting - I tend to like to throw in some gnarly stuff once in a while.
Anyway, these particular buns (yes! three types of preservatives) are good for letting butter seep in the holes before I add the swath of warm and spicy hummus. Bad girl..

I've got simit recipes on my mind, waiting for me to try, in the meantime. I tried to find Serbian devrek, which I gather is Serbia's version of Simit, but no luck finding a recipe so far. The Turkish recipes look good though. Lots for me to play with. I wonder if I'll ever get around to making those Montreal Bagels..

On hummus, that's getting to be a favorite food. A simple two cup package of dried chickpeas (oh, and sesame tahini and oil and spices after they slow cook), and I've got hummus for a month in the freezer. I need to break out of my rut since there are many things one can add to hummus, but I tend to add the same stuff.

Tonight - who knows, I'm going to be tired, but I might cook up the eggplant and the mushrooms that are getting elderly. (Will dice and spice those.) There's pasta, there's mild ital sausage. To be decided..

a still warm peanut butter + pine nuts + cocoa cookie.
I'm supposed to be out weeding, but go in and out to follow the end scene in the Masters golf tournament. As often happens with this tournament, it's craziness at the last nine holes..
