a falafel/grilled veg wrap at Sarah's Shawarma and Falafel in the Annex

loved the Syrian take on grilled eggplant - some awesome spice was on that

@ehBeth,
Tap water, gah, and lemon, and a tad of sugar.

I'm moving to eggplant fiendom - I toss a sliced fresh eggplant, diced, into not bad oil flailing and sauteeing about with minced garlic and one of my chile powders plus regular pepper. I do the same with the dreaded green peppers now. Time depends on when they taste good.

@ossobuco,
I've been looking at some online recipes trying to figure out what the flavour was - I think it was cinnamon and pomegranate - maybe a paste on the eggplant slices before grilling?

I'm going back to Sarah's (inshallah) for more flavour deconstruction.

@ehBeth,
Pomegranate is out of my league now, though I grew a fair tree some time ago. But! I take it they can grow here.

Ne'er mind the fruit, I like the trees.

@ossobuco,
Take a look around. Pomegranate has plummeted in price around here over the past 3 - 5 years. We pay less for a box now than they used to charge for one pomegranate Confused

@ossobuco,
You and almost all others but me cook differently in that I have close to no sense of smell. That's been tested, though I could smell a few things. (UC Irvine).

I apparently have some adequate ability to taste. I know I miss stuff - I just know what I like.

Some fair amount of time that fits with other people's recipes and my pleasure.

Gotta say, I hate my latest rye bread.

On my black beans, I followed some online site for white beans re how to cook beans, different for me than my usual. Frenchie.

I couldn't help it, I had to throw in a bit (tsp) of chimayo powder.

@ehBeth,
I go to my closest place. They were a mix of doltish and interesting things there when I first moved here. I like a lot of what they do and I don't mean them to gentrify... exactly. I've prompted from time to time, but usually not, re results. They have a good mexican/new mexican spice section, and sort of an extravaganza of named dried chiles - which is how I've been learning all this time.

I like the people. It's too bad they don't have me be this and that, they need me to manage..

Oh, and so far all nm tortillas suck. They're promoting fluffy now. Christ. It's just like texas.
