Washington - US President George W Bush, who has warned that a hasty US pullout from Iraq would be catastrophic, said on Thursday that US forces would leave if the fledgling Baghdad government asked them to.
"We are there at the invitation of the Iraqi government. This is a sovereign nation," he said at a White House press conference.
"If they were to say 'leave', we would leave."

BAGHDAD: A majority of Iraqi lawmakers have signed onto draft legislation calling for a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq and demanding a freeze on the number of such troops already in the country, lawmakers said Thursday.

Why is Bush is refusing to set a timetable?
Didn't the Iraqi president just go on a good will tour asking, maybe begging would be a better word, western countries not to abandon Iraq?
He represents their country as much as Bush represents ours, which is to say, not at all beyond the official capacity.
