Obama's Israel support questioned

March 19, 2007

Jewish leaders and groups are wary of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama's (D-IL) recent rhetoric on the Middle East conflict, according to an article in Monday's Politico.

Obama has sparked concern among Jewish leaders over phrases and remarks not amenable to Israel's most aggressive supporters.

"His attack on cynicism, and another line about the 'cycle of violence' struck hard-line supporters of Israel as suggesting that the Israeli and Palestinian sides are equally to blame - something Obama himself has rejected in other, prepared remarks," writes Politico columnist Ben Smith. "Phrases like 'cycle of violence' and - worse still - pledges to be 'even-handed' are freighted with meaning in that context, and a second-hand report in January from the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in January that Obama had once pledged to be 'even-handed' suggested to some Jewish critics that he was taking the Palestinian side."...

What this article illustrates is not Obama himself but how much support for Israel has come to blatantly dominate the American political process!

All but gone are concerns of how Obama (or any other candidate) will influence the economy, improve education, repair the roads and bridges, regain our technological and industrial might, indeed any other issue, save one.

How will this candidate support Israel has become the issue for the US media.

Is that not a warning sign?

I just hope he doesn't allow himself to be bullied. Jimmy Carter didn't, at least on this particular subject, and Obama shouldn't either.

Your right, Carter only rolled out the red carpet for terrorists. By pulling support for the leader of Iran in the late 70's he allowed Islamic Radicals to take control of the country and we have been dealing with the results ever since. Thank you President Carter.

You people still don't get my point. Confused

Obama Working to Boost Jewish Support

Where are the headlines that say, "Obama Working to Boost Hispanic Support", or "Obama Working to Boost Black Support"?

Take a step back from the headlines and take a wider look at the US political landscape, and see how it is totally dominated by Israel's wants and desires!

This is the UNITED STATE OF AMERICA! Israel's needs should be a minor foreign policy issue, not the central theme of the coming elections!

This is the first I have heard about it. So you know, this is just one of many groups that presidential candidates will court for votes.

Why didn't you post a story a week or so ago about Obama or Clinton being down in the south pulling for black votes? Being at the anniversery march in AL (I think) was nothing but a political courting event.

Few people realize the power of the Zionist lobby group over American politics, thus, American Foreign policy reflecting the Israeli agenda for the Middle East.
To watch American politicians cowering in the presence of a Foreign entity is absurd. It merely demonstrates that Americans need to take back politics from the "Career" politicians. Nothing will ever be resolved whilst spineless cretins hold positions of power which should be relegated to people who actually care for the well being of their own country.
AIPAC needs to be dismantled or sent packing to Israel where they belong.
