Hey dadpad, try running with yer Husqvarna strapped to yer side . That's what its like for us who are avoirdupoisally challenged. My hiking has allowed me to lose about 20 pounds off my chain sw. Ive got another 10 to go to get comfortably back to size 33 waiated pants.(That and not eating after 8pm and giving up really schlecky desserts)

DrewDad: There is nothing better than getting sweaty and bugbitten while getting some honest work done.
(Why do I sound like Ben Franklin?)

I've been musing, mourning, my recent too short vacation where I spent the early morning hours looking at misty seascapess like this:
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/5279/img204bn7.jpg

and running on a nearly primitive beach like this:

George:
Come to the South West Corner of Central Park. Look for these guys.

We'll meet right where these people are yelling at each other.

Then head out into this:

i biked to Walden Pond, greeted Thoreau, biked back. 35 miles, that should count for something. will drag my sorry arse out to go running today.

It counts for a lot. Glad you feeling better after being lagged. Are you back to running along the dirty water?

Reminder to self-- Chuck Taylors are lousy hiking shows. The woods up here are still springtime soggy, not like back at home.

Sounds like you're Down East.

Not yet. Today, I swear!
Yesterday, I had a friend over instead, we cooked a feast and had two bottles of wine with it. That's a workout, too.

So I did. I went and I ran. Did my 3.6 miles.

I love running after a long while. Everything loosens up. One has plenty of energy... I breezed through first three miles like a knife through soft butter, as we Slovaks say. I mean *everything* loosens up. And that was the problem.
I had to go.
I walked the rest of the way, very, ummm, carefully. Then I ran again - up the stairs and through the hallway and into the bathroom I ran.
TMI, I suppose. I wonder why the hell do I relate that here? Oh well, what's typed is typed.

And, despite the fact that I'm sure thousands of other runners have the same three mile er reaction, there is nothing in any of the running books I have about it.

Stretching.
Breathing.
Pacing.
Right kind of Shorts
Hydration speechs to beat the band.

Laughing

So what Do people do (haha, doo doo), when they are faced with the Three Mile Problem during, say, a marathon? Or an eight miler... Run behind the bushes? I demand a discussion on the subject.

Or on a diet: what do you do to prevent such? I know, Joe said go light on dinner the night before...but still. Any special diet? Soup? Celery? You gotta eat something or you won't have energy to run. Are there port-o-potties along the marathon trail? Otherwise I ain't going!

Before the start of any marathon, there will be long lines at the
portapotties. From within you can hear a chorus of Please, please...

Shouldn't the portapotties be scattered heavily right around the fourth mile of the marathon though? Maybe they are. It could be a good advertising tool, too. I'm sure many food companies would be interested:
"If you had a Danone pro-biotic culture yoghurt for dinner last night, you wouldn't have to sit here..."
and such...

There are several ways to uh, eliminate the problem.

More later, I have to go now.

Got out early for a holiday (7:00am) did 5.1 about as fast I could, came back to the house, showered and got back into bed. Slept until a quarter to one. Like having two nights sleep for me.

==
Coffee is what works for me. I have a big cup of espresso and, about thirty to forty minutes later, relief from worry arrives.

That means that I have to get up at 4:00am, snack the cats, make the coffee and slurp it down by 4:15, so that I am ready to head out the door at 4:50am.

I got a ten miler in today. Part of it went along back roads through a
state park in Carlisle. There is still a farm or two in this area, just beyond
the advance of the megapolis. It makes for a peaceful run; no traffic,
just me and the bugs. Ow! Slap!
