Recalled an old conversation we had here about shoes, remembered that mine are ancient (10 years? 15 years?) and that can't be helping. Will be getting some new ones, hopefully that'll make a difference, because I'm actually really enjoying the running thing and want to do it more.
10 or 15
years? Get thee to an athletic shoe store!
Seriously, girl, it's worth it.
Thanks for that link, osso, usually I see those kinds of things but it was all new to me. Good info there.
Definitely reinforcement of the idea to a) get some good shoes and b) not push myself too hard. It's something I always struggle with -- I have that jock mentality, always tend to go all-out. I think I was pretty good last time, focused on keeping my heartrate up (which included walking for stretches when it got TOO high), as opposed to focusing on speed.
I don't want to overstate the amount of pain involved -- it was really more on the level of discomfort rather than outright pain. After a couple of hours of some stretching and some normal activity, and since then, I've felt fine.
I plan to do it occasionally while continuing my thrice-weekly gym sessions -- the gym should keep getting me fitter and more able to run safely.
Sozobe, I had saved all eleven (eleven? well, many) of those articles, and would copy them for you, but, alas, lost them in my computer meltdown of a few months ago.
Aw, that's too bad. I bet they exist on the web somewhere -- I'll look around.
Hey, that was easy. I clicked on your original link, seems to still work just fine, no registration required either.
Special Fitness Issue - the Athlete's Foot
Yes, I saw that, but not all eleven articles....
maybe I'm just not clicking on it correctly.
I figured that out too, eventually. Saw the header, and then a bunch of articles under it, so seemed to be paydirt, but seems like only one of those articles is actually from the series.
I'll keep looking, but later, gotta get going...
Did an interval workout today consisting of a warm-up, 12 sets of minute
and a half sprints / minute and a half recoveries, and a cool-down. It was
wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Mind you, it was bad
enough.
Father's Day really filled up the old fat cells. Payback is a bitch.
Posting this from the beach!
Many long miles this week to make up for the many heavy duty meals we are having every twenty minutes or so.
Totals to come

Beach bum!
I'm glad to hear you have been getting in the miles. You are a man of
iron resolve.
Next month I will run in the footsteps of the master. I'll be in NYC and I
intend to jog one of Joe (insert parenthetical remark here) Nation's routes
though Central Park.
Today I'm wearing a belt I bought in SF some thirty-odd years ago. It fits
again. Woo hoo!
zero miles.
in fact, zero movement.
feeling tired and ancient, every bone in me hurts from sitting still 18 hours a day.
...though in amsterdam, that helps.
can't WAIT to get moving again!
Bummer, Dags. Wall-to-wall meetings?
Yes. But also, I've done something to my back. I woke up that way on the day I was leaving for amsterdam. It's this dull pain between shoulder blades, always persistent. Makes it hard to turn to the side and sometimes even to breathe in deeply. It felt similarly in high school when I dislocated two ribs from whatever they belong to (well, they did it without much of my assistance, i just turned around or something)... I think I should see a chiropractor... but my mother thinks that I should just give it a rest, that chiropractor can make it worse if it's imflammation or something. Hmmm, dunno. If it doesn't go away by 25th, when I'm back in Boston, I'll need to do something. I bear pain well, but it's annoying - takes my concentration away from things.
Screw bearing pain well, see a doctor.
See a doc, not a chiro. You should be able to find someone good in Amsterdam.
Just flew in and boy are my arms tired... .
33.o miles for the week, but I must have eaten half of Anna Maria Island.

PS: Need updates on Dag's aches.
On my way back to Boston, after what turned out to be a LOVELY week in Amsterdam. And productive. My back still hurts somewhat, but less. Seems my mother was right AGAIN and it was an inflammation. How does she do that?
Isn't most pain due to inflammation?
