letter of intent?

Here's the thing.....A new building is opening up in a different city that is a new branch to the place I am employed with. Seeings how I live in the other city, I am requesting a transfer. Now I have been told I need to write and submit a letter of intent in order to do this.

Does anyone know the format of something like this? What things to include? What things not to include? Is it sort of like a cover letter?

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

The letter should do two things:

1. State that it is your intention to request a transfer to that city. You may want to be specific about what job you will hold there.

2. State the reasons why you belive that such a transfer would be advantageous both to yourself and to the company.

The format should be the same as any formal business letter.
