nor another kind of

but stringly related to my background as

and it shows a lighthouse with "blink/white/1 sec"

It is an extremely cool avatar, Walter. When we were on the Oregon coast a month or so ago, we stopped in to visit a few of the lighthouses. One of the guides said each lighthouse had its own signature blink. Of course, I asked but she couldn't tell me what each one was. Obviously she was an inexperienced guide -- an experienced guide would have made something up.

Certainly each lighthouse has an own signature blink ... or flash ... or colour. Otherwise it would (have been) be rather difficult to know, which one it is - at dark.
(That's all mentioned/noted in the charts and handbooks = lighthouses/lightvessels/buoyage/navigational marks descriptions.)

Better, hiama fells from the clock than from the Cutty Sark bridge:

The 'Cutty Sark' bridge over the A8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

BTW: some "Cutty Sark fun" is to be found HERE!

I'm a bit sceptical about all this Scotch whisky blending nonsense.
I read Walter's link, and the language used in the advertising blurb leaves me cold.
I know it's sacrilegious for me to say so, but still....oops, an unintended pun.
But some whiskies I like better than others. A favourite blend is Haig Dimple; that's quite hard to get hold of here, now.

The single malts, now; they're the chappies.

Slainte!

Guatam! Sorry about your allergies, maybe Kew isn't your thing, though I love it. However, you're close to Greenwich? Have you been to the museums there? Would you be interested in going?... or maybe we could meet nearby for lunch? We'll probably go down on the Thames ferry link. Anyway, we could meet for a drink Friday after work if you wanted. What fun!

Piffka, been to greenwich museam, and done all the touristy bits. I often play football in the greewich park (just in case u wanna see my legs LOL)

Being a friday, I doubt if I can meet u at daytime (maybe lunch - will have to check closer to the day), but a drink in town sounds very nice !!

Remind me of the dates again ? (I am leaving for India on the 20th Aug, u r here before that right ??)

Guatam, I'll be in London in September. Would Friday the 26th work for you? I will remind you closer to the date, though you'll probably be in India for a while.

I should say that if there's anybody who would like to get together on that evening in London, or another - the more, the merrier. I'd love to meet you -- don't be shy!!!

McTag -- I know what you mean about blended whiskies. There's something so cool about a single malt distillery. That quote about making whisky being a science and blending it, an art? I'm sure it originated with a blender!

My grandpa was a whisky runner during prohibition... it appears I come from a long line of "private" distillers, but when I drink, it is usually red wine. I AM looking forward to trying the heather beer, what's it called... Fraoch? (However do you pronounce THAT?)

'From the bonny bells of heather They brewed a drink langsyne
Was sweeter far than honey
Was stronger far than wine'

- Robert Louis Stevenson

It's ALE, btw, Piffka.
And how to pronounce it ... "ch" at the end, like in 'loch'

More about Scottish beer (at the times I was still drinking, McEwans was my favourite):
Scottish beer

FRAOCH

Walter! What a perfectly appropriate poem from RLS. And it's ale, eh? OK. I'll try not to embarass myself by asking for beer!
(Frah-ock?)

CI - The only time I've been to India was when Guatam took some abuzzers on a tour. Do you remember? It was wonderful and the websites were amazing -- I was especially entranced with the train company that offered a private car for touring the north.

Guatam -- Oh, I hope it all works out for us to meet!

"ch" = guttural sound, like in German the composer 'Bach' or the Scottish 'Loch'.
