See how easy it is to make poetry in English?

Black pudding, sweetbreads,
Up with the Blues, down with the Reds!

Does too. (the way I say it Smile )

You can do it like a rap: get a groove going, four strong beats in the bar, snap your fingers in time with your beat, then say:

As I went down Old Trafford way
I thought I heard the people say
This team of ours, it's not much cop
Doesn't Fergie know when it's time to stop?
He's past it by a good few years
What he's doing now, bound to end in tears
The future of our game's at City
Kevin's there, and he's sitting pretty
Third in the League and only just begun
Like the seventh son of a seventh son
Fortune smiles on Kevin's boys
One jew, one arab, and...nine goys
And the food there's better than Old Trafford pap
Got to hand it to Kevin, he's quite a chap
Stadium, team, and catering too
The team of the future is the team in blue
Black * pudding, ** sweet breads
Up with the Blues, down with the Reds

Did you make that up your own bad self? It is quite good. I like the pale blue of Man. City, too.

However, it would be more funny if I weren't in the process of making a meat pie right now! But I know what is in mine, and it is all delish! Only the best meaty parts of my lovely Sunday roast, plus the last of the cooked vegies and some green pea.

I bought a meat pie the very first time I went to England, expecting a taste treat, something like my mother's meat pie. I took one bite and literally would not... could not take another. Ick. Ick. Ick. It was full of fat, gristle and some other horrible stuff that I had never even considered putting in my mouth before! What's with that????

I do like good ol' Fish & Chips, but meat pies? <shudder>

In the chip shop, they heat 'em up by deep-frying them! An acquired taste, I admit.
And in out northern chippies, we have steak puddings too, which are steamed to heat them up.
They are quite good, but Frenchmen and Germans are disinclined to eat them.

Pudding, chips and mushy peas
Help you give your girl a squeeze

I've seen battered & fried steak pies up in Scotland. And battered pizzas, Mars Bars, Cadbury's Creme Eggs, ice cream....

Yeah, especially those poor bits of cod. They can't just cook them and eat them, they have to beat them up first.

Liked the City of Manchester rap though. As I get older and live away from Manchester, as a true natural born red, I find my instinctive hostility towards all things sky blue diminishing somewhat. I try to revive it by thinking Bell Summerbee Alison and Rodney Marsh. But its no good, I'm developing some sort of a weakness. I'm worried about this, I'll see what my doctor says.

Why would thinking of an Australian cricketer make you feel less hostile towards ?Manchester City? Rolling Eyes

Not THAT Rodney Marsh. A footballer from the 1970s. Very good too, on his day. A maverick.

Hey have we killed this thread off, talking about soccer? And unhealthy foods? Talk about something else, quick! I've not been paying attention to dates. Has Piffka left yet?

Well Piff and PK are near in flight,
and I tag along behind to meet y'all.
Not to be obnoxious about it, but we
are all many miles away. Nine hours
once you get to the right airport on either end.

Hugs and pillows from here.

Former Australian wicket-keeper, and, I think, Vice Captain! He's now an English Selector, and coach of the English cricketing Academy:

Rodney Marsh takes on the impossible!

He tells the Poms not to worry about the Ashes tests next year, but to concentrate on the 2007 World Cup! Hah! Now there's Aussie pragmatism at it's greatest!

Just re-orienting this thread to talk about that truly English game, cricket, that the English are so crap at!

Reminding Super G that the Indians are touring Oz at the end of the year - and the Australians will be in England for another Ashes test series next year! However, even the English selector doesn't think they should turn up!
