Did they serve hamburgers?

I think I will be going over that old bridge this time - we're taking the train to Inverness.

When we went across the Firth of Forth before(th), we came across from Dumfermline and did have to take the new bridge headed towards the airport & never went into Edinburgh. We'd taken an early morning walk through that gigantic church & edifice where Robert the Bruce was buried. As we were crossing I realized I had dogpoo on my boot & was desperate to get it off. (Yuck! Can you imagine how popular I would have been in the plane if I hadn't cleaned it all off at the gas station?)

Pifka, Good air view of both bridges. I'm sure Macdonald's restaurant is located on the top, right half of your picture. No hamburger for us; I think it was simple fare, but good. c.i.

Hey brilliant pic.
And thanks for all the pics.
That's the most atypical Macdonald's restaurant I've ever seen.
I guess it must have been run by Flora MacDonald, not Ronald.
Serving venison burgers and Auld Alliance fries, no doubt.

Salute to globetrotters, everywhere

Thanks! That photo was taken from a sailing website... see how the marina is a big part of the picture? The railroad bridge is certainly striking -- I don't think there's another bridge like that.

CI -- I doubt we'll get to go that McDonald's restaurant -- we won't have a car when we're in Edinburgh and not that much time either, just two nights. I figure we'll go up and down the Royal Mile once, climb Arthur's Seat and we'll be on our way.

I know who Flora is... she's the young woman who dressed Bonnie Prince Charlie in drag so that he wouldn't be caught.

That's right, Flora was not related to Ronnie.
She went "Over the sea to Skye" in her bonnie boat.

Letter from England: we went to see the Imperial War Museum (northern) today- housed in a new building by Daniel Liebeskind. He's the eminent architect who has the commission to design the memorial at the Twin Towers site in NYC.

I thought Flora was from Skye?

The Imperial War Museum North looks interesting, McTag. In Manchester, huh. I looked at Daniel Liebeskind's website. Did you recognize the Earth, Water and Air Shards?

Piffka, If you haven't visited the Imperial War Museum in London, I highly recommend it. I've been twice, and never disappointed in their displays. c.i.

It's not really my thing, CI, but maybe Mr.P would love it. I'm hoping to see the British Museum again and the Soane, plus Greenwich. That should more than fill up my museum punch card this trip. Wink

Well? What should we bring?

Last evening, I was helping Mr.P plan what he would bring... #1 was a digital camera, #2 - the cell phone we bought in the UK last time, #3 - a good map, and the list continues until #11. He's mentioned hiking boots - #9 and another pair of shoes - #10, so I say, well.... Socks? He says, oh just put down clothes. I'll know what to bring.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwkkkkk!!!!!
(Do only women understand why this is upsetting to me?)

Thanks to you Piffka I'm searching the web for maps and images, and found out London isn't that far from Cornwall and Southampton!

Interesting when you get down to the grass roots!

I want to go to Surrey/Croydon to see the house I was born in.

Sounds like a great quest, Misti. If you know the address, you can find it on the UK mapping website, then switch it to aerial photos and SEE that house.
