Daily Telegraph:
Records shattered at £400million art auction
Quote:Fierce bidding and a tense, overcrowded saleroom last night opened the biggest week in British art auction history as some of the world's richest dealers and collectors descended on Sotheby's in London for the opening sales.
Sotheby's and its rival, Christie's, are auctioning paintings - Impressionists, 20th Century and modern pictures - with estimates of more than £400 million. They are billed as the biggest auctions ever held outside America.

Walter, Thanks for posting this. It reminds me of the first painting that sold for $1 million. A Rembrandt--Aristotle Contemplating the Bust of Homer. It's hanging at the Metropolitan Museum, just down the street.
I love seeing the works for sale. I bid on the Degas--$43.98. For me that's a lot. I love Degas. I'm not a big Renoir fan, but the painting you posted could turn me around on that.
