Frankreich hat mit scharfer Kritik auf die jüngsten Äußerungen von US-Präsident George W. Bush zum weiteren Vorgehen im Irak reagiert. Bush denke, "dass es eine militärische Lösung für das irakische Problem gibt", sagte Außenminister Philippe Douste-Blazy am Mittwoch im Nachrichtensender LCI. "Bisher ist dies gescheitert; es gibt einen Bürgerkrieg." Die Franzosen glaubten "beinahe genau das Gegenteil", fügte Douste-Blazy hinzu: "Wir denken, dass ein politischer Prozess erforderlich ist." Auf die Frage nach einem Rückzug der US-Truppen im Irak sagte der französische Außenminister, es sei an den Amerikanern, einen Zeitplan festzulegen. "Offensichtlich" könne es keinen zivilen Frieden geben, solange das Land nicht volle Souveränität genieße.
