It's six figures these days, I think. A drop in the bucket for most any major scientific research institution, but a good chunk of money for most playwrights and poets.

When Beckett won the Nobel for Literature in 1969, the prize was 375,000 Swedish crowns. The prize in 2000 was 9 million crowns. Alas, I have no idea how to translate what Beckett won into contemporary dollars. I'm sure it was a nice su,m, but I don't recall reading about him tooling around France in a custom vehicle, swilling good champagne and trying to pick up young women...
