Ahhh, I've got another horse to root for; his name is Cupid, and he just won his first Stakes race, the Rebel.

There are two newly hatched baby bald eagles in a tree in the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. Their nest, and activity, can be viewed live on the Eagle Cam which has been set up to observe them.

You never know what you might see. I just had the treat of watching momma bird (known as The First Lady--dad is Mr. President) move off the fluff ball babes nestled under her and begin feeding them. Definitely thud worthy. Smile

Great pics, you guys. And I'll be looking in on those eagles, firefly.

Red-capped manikin. I saw this bird doing its mating dance on Nat Geo. They say it's a moonwalk. I say phooey to that. This bird made up its own dance. I also say amazing:

I was restless. It was late, but I decided to take a little walk anyway. I spotted a small crowd. I went up to investigate. In the middle of the crowd were two very large dogs, one pure white, the other mixed colors. Central Asian shepherds (about 180 pounds each of canine). Magnifico. The dogs were basically not paying much attention to the attention they were getting.

I petted the multicolor dog, and he responded. Do I have a magic touch? No. I think I have tremendous comfort with and fondness for very large dogs.

Here's what one looks like:

@Roberta,
Roberta? You probably could put a saddle on that giant guy and ride him through Central Park.

tsar, When I first saw the dogs, I said, "What kind of dog are they. . . they are dogs, aren't they?"

I've been around lots of large dogs, but nothing this massive. Their feet were as big as my hands, but not as long. Hey, I've got fingers.

edgar, the pika is bordering on thudworthy.

vonny, get that swan a friend. Gorgeous pic, though.

Great photos, tutti. Vonny, I wonder whether the fox photo is for real. Why? No footprints. Whether it's legit or not, it's a great pic.

Salamander. Do I know what kind? No. I'm guessing that someone will be along to tell us. Confession time. Amphibians make me nervous, but this one is a doozy.
