Thanks for the sterling pics, you guys. Vonny, that mountain goat makes me nervous. Barry, bon voyage. Submarine? Train set? Enjoy.

I found your original posting http://able2know.org/topic/89445-558#post-4715156

My dog photo image is broken now (one of the many since pixdaus changed their software) but at least if you 'open image in new tab' you get the photo at it's new address. Clever buggers.

All a bit beyond me, I'm afraid - I need to have a lesson or two (dozen) in computers and computing - only been on the A2K 'chat' forum since January - crossword-puzzling only before that - so still a bit green where all this high tech stuff is concerned!!! Rolling Eyes But I've enjoyed myself this morning, reading through old posts on Beautiful Animals - so many wonderful photographs and so many interesting posts.

Just a phone camera grab, but I couldn't resist this hefty mantid. Close to 4" long. Probably the biggest I've ever laid eyes on:

It was still nearby this morning:

http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/DinahFyre/DSC_1636.jpghttp://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/DinahFyre/DSC_1637.jpghttp://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/DinahFyre/DSC_1641.jpghttp://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/DinahFyre/DSC_1644.jpghttp://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/DinahFyre/DSC_1646.jpg

As close as I was willing to put my finger:

And for the heck of it, a garden spider and her mate(?)/lunch:

@trying2learn,
Yeah, probably the biggest one I've ever seen. Somewhere between 4 and 5". It's a chunk.

@FBM,
Lemme tell you something; they look a lot friendlier before they are magnified.

@roger,
The mantis or the spider?

@trying2learn,
I meant the mantis, but both now that you mention it.

@roger,
Yeah, tell me about it. Since I started doing macro work with insects, I've had to work hard to overcome the creep factor.

@Barry The Mod,

You can tell he's a vegetarian because he has that condescending vegan stare telling the viewer to "Put down that burger you murderer!".

@tsarstepan,
I wonder if all vegan spiders have yellow tongues.

Thanks, gang, for the bugs, arachnids, and the one pachyderm.

I'm having trouble scrolling on google. Can't find or post pics. Phooey.
