@FBM,
I'm not convinced this is real - or at least that it has been given the right name.

No mentions in wikipedia, or the formidable array of library subscription resources I have at my finger tips. Google only brings up reblogs, and the name Australian Stained-Glass Mirror Spider. And this is the only image that I can find.

But I persist - hunting for the photographer name find his blog, he's a Singaporean macro photographer!

http://sgmacro.blogspot.com.au/2013/07/transformation-of-mirror-spider.html

He says it is Thwaitesia sp. (the wikipedia entries for subspecies are mostly stubs) and he is the one who calls it a 'mirror spider'.

Another Nicky Bay photo - he calls it the 'Skull faced caterpiller' - I think he is a better photographer than zoologist.

@edgarblythe,
Yeah Ed, I posted that wikipedia had stub entries for all the subspecies of Thwaitesia.

@hingehead,
vonny, An amphibian ham. And my favorite fish. Is the white fuzzy animal in the person's hand a bunny? Hard to tell. But tres dear. Love the bamboo eaters. Thanks for them all, kid.

FBM, Is that a caterpillar or some kinda woim or slug?

Reg, The owl looks pooped. But what magnificent wing feathers.

edgar, Extraordinary arachnid. Wow. What are the chances that a firefly will land on your finger--with a camera at the ready? A doozy, kid. Thanks.

HH, I did some poking around on google. Found some contradictory info. Most of the photos are by the same guy.

@Roberta,
According to an entymologist friend it's a sawfly larva. I googled it. They seem to come in a wide range of flavors...
