@edgarblythe,
That's like Foxy the Mallard and (Charlie?) the golden retriever, fast friends who put up with each other and played heartily. They belonged to our neighbors.

@timur,
vonny, Love the squirrel and the upside down polar bear. I understand that scientists are considering reclassifiying polar bears as marine mammals. They'd better hurry up before these magnificent animals become extinct. Are the big deer elk? Beauties whatever they are. The spider photo is stunning. But what are we looking at? Is the little spider related to the big spider? Prey?

FBM, The two bugs backing into each other is an interesting pic. Are they mating? Or is there simply not enough room on the flower? Good heavens, lord a mercy. What is the gray furry bug? That is one amazing photo.

timur, That is an extraordinary photo of a walrus. Where was the photographer, I wonder. Wow.

Thanks to you all.

@vonny,
Danke! Didn't mean to frighten! Wink It's a different world in the land of the very small, I guess.

Very gracias! The moths(?) were getting it on. I thought it was cute the way they were "holding hands". No idea what that grey furry bug is. I found it in the classroom yesterday and promised to surprise my students with a photo of it today. Wink

The Serval is native to Africa, where it is widely distributed south of the Sahara. It was once also found in Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria [5] but may have been extirpated from Algeria and remains in Tunisia only because of a reintroduction program.[2] Serval became extinct in the Cape provinces of South Africa over the last century mainly due to habitat loss, hunting and poaching. However private game reserves in the Eastern Cape have begun re-introducing the species in the hopes of contributing to the eventual re-establishment of these wild cats in the region.[citation needed]

Its main habitat is the savanna, although melanistic individuals are more usually found in mountainous areas at elevations up to 3,000 metres (9,800 ft). The serval needs watercourses within its territory, so it does not live in semi-deserts or dry steppes. Servals also avoid dense equatorial jungles, although they may be found along forest fringes. They are able to climb and swim, but seldom do so.[5]

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Thanks for the glorious pic and all the serval info. I've always been interested in these wild PCs. They are amazing jumpers and have been known to take a bird right out of the air.

Yes and no! It's a female Giant Wood Spider (Nephila pilipes) chasing the male. Most of the female spiders make a meal out of the male after mating!
