Oh my gosh, horsefarm, those pics are so stunning. I don't think there is an animal that can surpass the beauty of a horse, although a few come close. What I love most, I think, it when they are running. My uncle had horses on his ranch in Colorado. I will never forget watching his Arabian stallion leading the mares in a race across the range. True poetry in motion.

Roberta, I just found your thread and haven't gone all the way through. For now, though, I am posting a pic of a Florida panther. They are terribly endangered because of the assinine developers filling in so much of the Everglades. The faces of mountain lions and the Fla. panther are, to me, the most beautiful of the big cats.

Here 'tis:

I have to say, there aren't many stunning photos of the friesians online. There are some stunning photos of them in my niece's books......

littlek, Sneak into her room late at night and sneak out with the book. Then scan the photos and post them here. Either that or you could ask her.

roberta we have a legendary race horse here also affectionatly named Big Red.
"Pharlap" was (supposedly) murdered by American racing syndicates on his one visit to the U.S.

Heard about Pharlap. Didn't know his nickname was Big Red. Phooey on the equinicide. Makes me sick.

horsefarm: Good grief, you're a fast learner. It took days and dozens of people to teach me how to post photos here. I'm impressed. Also, thanks for the stunning photos. Affirmed is a beauty. And the stallion? That's not a good picture of him? Can't imagine what a good picture would look like. Wonder what it feels like to ride such an animal.

Hi Diane, Glad you showed up.

Love watching horses move--and hearing the noises they make. There's a photo of an Arabian on page 2 (at least I think it's page 2).

I almost agree with you about the face of the panther/cougar/puma/mountain lion. And then I see a leopard or a lynx or a jaguar and have a change of heart.

I'm not 100 percent certain but I believe that the pure species of Florida panther is no more. Wildlife biologists had to import their cousins from out west to keep the species going. I believe now there are only hybrids. I could be wrong.

Seventeen hands? Wow, that's a lot of trouble.

Yeh, and no one had ridden her until B/P did when the horse was six, the mere start of years of joy and angst.

Piffka visited when she caught up with me in "north north". But.. piffka has her own swell horse photos, for sure.

I'm horseless, but have long paid attention.

Me too. Used to ride every summer in the mountains. Wonderful memories. My favorite was a palomino named Moishe. The photo below is not of Moishe. Just a palomino.

I admire the physical beauty of horses, but have always found them pretty scary, up close. So highly strung & wound up. So jumpy. Possibly because they sense my apprehension in their presence.

msolga, many animals can sense fear and will respond to it, so you may be right thaty your feelings elicited a response in horses. I never found horses to be especially jumpy or wound up. However, I was taught how to be around them and deal with them. They don't see the way we do. and they don't like things coming at them from behind. Grooming a horse is a wonderful experience--for the horse and the groom. But riding is better. Loved walking through the woods on a small mountain path down to the lake or stream. Great memories.

http://www.wuertzfarm.com/images/donkey%20pic%202.jpg

we once inquired about a donkey being kept amongst a flock of sheep on a farm on the manitoulin island, the farmer told us it because of wolves, the donkey's are fearless and will attack any that try to hurt the flock

p.s. i don't dislike horses, and the pics are great
