@Barry The Mod,
Treetops Lodge - wasn't that where Princess Elizabeth was staying when the late King died? Sounds a fascinating place. I guess an elephant can lift huge tree trunks and carry them, or toss them, so a rhino wouldn't be too great a load..... but all that power is scary! Thank goodness they're usually so gentle.

@Barry The Mod,
vonny, What, no thud alert? You're forgiven. Glad that you're now posting pics. Not only does the little elephant have an up-to-the-minute hairdo, but he's got red hair! Tres cute. I'm not sure why you think that elephants are gentle. Tame ones can be. But wild ones, not so much. I met an elephant once at the Bronx Zoo. Famous in the local environs. Tuss and a local university football team (yes, the whole team) had an annual tug of war. Tuss always won. I petted her once. The expression on the little lion's face is priceless. Thanks mucho.

Hey, London. What's wrong? Couldn't find pictures of elephants? The first one is kind of claustrophobic. The second is heart warming. It's cold here. My heart needed a little warming. Thanks. Love reading about your African adventures. Did some googling. A full-grown male rhino can weight about 4,5oo pounds. (Sorry I don't know what that is metrically.) A full-grown male African elephant can weigh 15.000 pounds. So an elephant lifting a rhino might cause a grunt but not a hernia. The horses are beyond beautiful. Stunning. They take my breath away. Thanks for all the wonderful pics. You're an extremely good kid.

Ice blue parakeet. Reminds me of my late, lamented Billie. I've been thinking about her a lot lately.

@Roberta,
The taught muscled felines are hunting as a unit, a focused unit of killing machines. They are watching the bird, watching , waiting for the perfect moment.......

@Barry The Mod,
fm, The only PCs I know of that hunt in groups are lions. I suspect that the kitties in the pic are (1) focusing on the bird and (2) planning how to get rid of the other kitties.

Barry, querido, I was joking. The number of elephants in the first picture was overwhelming. However, I'm glad you misinterpreted me. I got to see more of your Africa pics. Yessssss. Thanks mucho.

@Roberta,
Roberta, sorry I forgot the thud! Glad you like the photos -great to have had help in picture posting - I'm learning more each day on A2K.

Gentle ellies? The only ones I've had contact with were tame - not so sure I'd like to meet a rampaging bull elephant in the wild though!

Barry - oh such beautiful pictures of horses - especially the last one, heartbreakingly so!!!

I suspect there might be a little photoshop color enhancement going on here, but I'm not sure.

That's so sweet that turtle snuggling up with the jellyfish and the jellyfish accepting it like that.

@firefly,
In about a week--give or take, more or less--this little thread will reach 1 million views. No big deal, except to me. I plan on posting some of my favorite pics and some of my favorite animals to celebrate. Join me if you like.

rosborne, I've seen pictures of that lizard. A stunner, no question. But you might be right about the enhanced color. With or without, it's a terrific pic. Of all the places the monarch could land, it chooses a lizard's head. Thanks, kid. Love that toitle.

firefly, The cockles of my heart are all heated up. Thanks and sigh.

One of my favorite pics. Nobody was hurt:

@vonny,
vonny, Giganto thanks for the thud alert. OMG, what a cutie. Woulda been cute enough without the leaves. With the leaves, a definite loud thud. I braced myself. I'm fine and still conscious. Thanks mucho.

A stare-down with my favorite reptile, the black mamba:
