Considering we're seeing a story about the NYPD, it's a story with a happy(ish) ending (so far):

@Berty McJock,
Barry, I'm hoping that Joe enjoys his retirement.

edgar, It's the eyes that do it. Very expressive. The mouth too.

osso, Great pic, kid. Why do we seem to love seeing animals in the snow. Picturesque, I'm guessing.

tsar, I'm surprised to hear about a goat running around in the streets of Brooklyn. Not at all surprised that an African goatherd was there. Very New Yorky. Love it.

Berty, If I had any money, I'd put it on the felines. As much as I'd love to see Cheetahs running (anywhere), I can't say I'm a fan of keeping wild animals as pets. Despite the maulings, attacks, bites, and killings, I'm sympathetic to the animals. They aren't domestic animals. They should be running around in the open where they belong. Second best: reserves and sanctuaries. Third best: well equipped and spacious zoos. (They're saving some animals from extinction.)

Sorry about the lecture. You touched a nerve.

Run, bubbelehl, run:

@Roberta,
sorry roberta, you really got the wrong end of the stick there. when i said it's a shame you cant keep them as pets, it was for the very reasons you mentioned. it would be nice to have one as a pet, but it would be cruel to the animal (whatever wild animal that may be), impractical, and basically plain ludicrous if nothing else.
it would still be nice though, IF it were a viable option, which i fully agree it isn't.

doesn't mean we can't fantasise though Smile

@Berty McJock,
My fantasy is to see them running in Africa. Not gonna happen. You're right. It doesn't hurt to dream.

Mine too.While being driven around Nairobi National Park,we spotted a Cheetah sitting in long grass. I asked the driver to hang around for a while so I could get some pics. 45 minutes later,she (the cheetah,not the driver) stood up,took a pee and sat down again.I will have to dig out the pics.
Meanwhile,this made me smile.
Dreams....

@hingehead,
Barry, You were in Africa?! You saw a cheetah pee in the flesh, so to speak. Green with envy. Loved the ad. A clydesdale donkey. Whoda thunk?

HH, That's one hell of a bug. Wow and thanks.

"For a [female] cheetah the real danger is not losing a kill but losing her cubs. Ninety-five percent of cheetah cubs die before reaching independence. Hyenas kill them out of hunger, lions apparently out of bad habit. ... Female cheetahs deal with the threat by constantly moving, preferably before their rivals even know they're around. They coexist as phantom species, slipping into temporary vacancies between prides of lions and packs of hyenas."

White-Tailed Eagles, Poland

Photograph by Sylwia Domaradzka, My Shot

I took this image during my last trip to Poland, where I was amazed by these birds. It seems like every one of them wanted to dominate the group. Displays of such mild aggression were very common.
