Marsupial Rocky, marsupial!

You're right, a carefully selected photo to illustrate my point that they 'can seem hideous'. Feel free to find a hideous photo of an Oz possum in the interests of equal time! Laughing

@ossobuco,
Under your house, osso?
Ours usually make their homes under people's roofs (or roovs? Confused Which is it, JTT?) ... then drive the residents mad as they run relay races in the wee small hours & scramble around very noisily while folks are trying to sleep. Say nothing of getting out into their gardens & chomping up the roses & developing fruit on their trees ....! Little devils! Wink

Sadly they die if moved to another location ... their chosen home is their only habitat, apparently. As some well-meaning folk have discovered from possum experts after having shifted them to other locations ....

But then, other possums arrive & take over old homes!
So I guess we gotta get used to them? Smile

Yes, I see your point!

But maybe it was the only US possum pic available at the time? Wink

@msolga,
I liked it. It was an it to me... it sat up in the branches of our liquidambar tree, staring at me as I went out on our porch at some time in early a.m. I'm not sure if it was before or after that that I saw an article on making possum pie. We made no move to get rid of it, but I suppose times were tough for them.

@msolga,
Thanks for the thought, but ours look like big, scruffy rats - right down to the tail. The one in the lower left of HH's montage looks a lot like ours.

@ossobuco,
I think I would have like a possum resident, too, osso.
But I've never had the privilege.
Perhaps my home's not up to discerning possum standards? Smile

And I'm glad you didn't even consider possum pie! Wink

Hey you guys. Finished with the possum discussion? Sorry I wasn't around to participate. I was otherwise engaged.

JTT, I've been thinking about the cockatoo dog pic. Surprised when you brought it up. I've been thinking that the bird could have easily eaten out of the pot without turning around. On second thought, I think the bird was sharing. I had a bird and a dog at the same time. The bird was dominant. Go figure. Size ain't everything.

King cobras also guard their nests. King cobras are snake eaters. They abandon the nest before the babies are born so that they won't eat their offspring as a result of instinct. I'm not convinced that there's more there. I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

@roger,
Roger, You talking to me? Of course I love a St. Bernard. Great faces. Great dogs. I don't see many in the city. Phooey.

Love horses too. Little ones and big ones.

Here's a gypsy vanner (new to me):

Do you have any idea why 'mormon' got into the name, Roberta? Is there a meaning for 'mormon' besides the religion.
