@rosborne979,
He's worried about the declining honeycreeper population.

@Roberta,
He's in Hawaii, he should relax and enjoy the sun. Lay on the beach, kick back, have a drink, start reproducing. Smile

Or she, if that's the case.
Just stunning!

@Barry The Mod,
Barry, Buster is definitely a hero. Glad he got to retire. I assume he'll eventually adjust to civilian life. Thanks for sharing.

He's fulfilled two purposes here. A hero--and a great face.

A rare golden brushtail possum, who was born this week at Wild Life Sydney. The species is one of Australia's largest arboreal (tree-dwelling) marsupials and is rarely seen in the wild.

A mountain hare peeps over the heather in Upper Derwentdale, the Peak District. The creatures turn white in winter, when there is a dearth of predators. This shot is taken from our Green Shoots pool, and you can just about make out a reflection of the photographer in the hare's eye.

Hippopotamuses surface from a pond in the Maasai Mara national reserve. Some of Kenya's parks and their ecosystems have been hit hard recently by prolonged drought, which resulted in the loss of huge numbers of herbivorous animals such as zebras, elephants and buffaloes. This in turn created a shortage of food for carnivores such as lions and hyenas.

@msolga,
I do admit your possums have a greater cuteness factor than ours.

@roger,
Ha.
That was one of our cuter (& rarer) ones. And very pretty, I must say! Smile
I'm sure that the less-cute varieties are pretty similar & more common place in both our countries.
Are there ring-tailed possums in the US ... or are they a purely Oz variety?

@Roberta,

Not sure I agree with the heading on the video. I think that the cockatoo is feeding the cockatoo, and the dog is taking what's hanging down.

I don't know about that, Roberta. Every animal knows to keep its food source apart from others. Cockatoos aren't dumb - he/she seems to know that the dog will take only the spaghetti and not his/her head.

Interesting thoughts.

I think fish, amphibians, and reptiles are all instinct.

What of crocodiles/alligators that guard their nests? Again, interesting thoughts.

@msolga,
Hi Olgs

I posted this here somewhere a while ago - an american possum/opossum is not the same as an Australian possum (Didelphimorphia versus Phalangeriformes )- their's can seem a little hideous aesthetically. They are both marsupials, theirs coming from South America (I wonder if they share a Gondwanaland ancester). Ours were called possums by Joseph Banks because the reminded him of the American ones - but he was a botanist, not a zoologist.
