osso, I agree about the hippo. Great face. They're finding out a lot about hippos. Big surprises. They're omnivores, not just herbivores. Who knew.

Hi C.I., Good to see you here again. That's a might impressive silverback. Don't think it's so much an ancestor as a distant cousin--from the same family tree. Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by "these guys are a maybe."

I've heard someplace that all living things have some similarities. The origin of life must be based on some combination of chemistry with some similarities like protein and hydrogen.

Idea Now I understand. Thanks for explaining, C.I. And you're right. We do share some similarities with all animals. Why not a fish?

Black-footed cat (one of the smallest of all the wild cats, maybe 4 1/2 pounds; native to South Africa). BTW, I looked at a bunch of photos of these guys. Didn't see one with black feet.

Saw ibis in Africa; the shape of the bird's beak usually informs us what their diet is. It's similar to the 17 (14) Darwin finches; they have different shaped beaks depending on their food source.

Rosborne, A red-headed silverback. Tres cool. Thanks.

Thanks for the link C.I. I lifted it so that we could see the photo. The birds appear to be geese:

If the blue ribbon eels were flowers I might be willing to grow them in my garden. I love the colours!

littlek, Glad you like the octopus. Dem guys is big.

Tai, I agree about the colors. Spectacular. I looked at dozens of photos of those eels. Not one with them with their mouths closed. They must be in a permanent gape.

Deb, While I was looking, you were posting. Absolutely spectacular and fascinating stuff. Thanks for the links. I've looked at a lot of bug pics. Never saw that white mantid. Gorgeous.

I wish I had better skills as finding good sites. You can be sure I'll be checking out the ones you give.

Good on bloody bugboy. Look at all these fantastic photos.
