Glad you like them, osso. I stumbled onto the golden cat when I was looking for something else.

Dadpad, Thanks for the photo of the greater bilby. I assumed that if there was a greater, that there would also be a lesser. Found the following.

BTW, Sorry to hear it's so endangered.

Lesser bilby:

Thanks mucho, TTH. They're wonderful. And I'm glad to hear that you're keeping your hands to yourself. Relieved too.

Edit: I switched photos. I took a close look at the original picture. It doesn't look real. This one does.

Hi! Welcome to a2k and to this thread. Do you prefer to be called Linda or grasshopper? Thanks for posting the wonderful photos from the German zoo. The hippo reminds me of an old friend of mine from the Bronx Zoo, and the seal made me think of the seals in the Central Park Zoo. The spider monkey has a sweet face.

Now for your question. The coconut crab is the largest land crab. It's about 9 pounds (4 kg). It's body is 16 inches (400 mm) long. And it has a leg span of about 3 feet (1 m). It is called a coconut crab because it is strong enough to crack open coconuts with its claws. I think it's an amazing looking animal.

Granted, dadpad. Not a conventional beauty. But I love it's primitive, prehistoric look. And keep your fingers and toes inside the boat.

Here's a 20lb 'er I found here in NH (not an alligator snapper, just a regular one. Still very prehistoric looking). Smile
