One reason for that could be that he died fifty or sixty years ago. Ain't doin too much new these days, as a result. He also wrote "You Are My Sunshine". As a governor, he could write a good song.

tsar, Some frogfish look froggier than the one I chose. I liked the pattern. Greatly enjoyed the slide show. I knew about dem nudibranchs from my wanderings here. Beautiful.

dj, Oooooh. I like that black bunny. And that otter appears to have an opinion. Go to it, ot.

@Roberta,
That pattern on the frogfish was beautiful indeed.

Also, I hope that one day the bison can reach even half of their preFrontier day population. They were/are a vital population for help keep the prairies vital and healthy.

@tsarstepan,
Yes, but what will the bison be eating? The prairie grass that covered the land from the Atlantic to the Rockies is long gone. The wolves who kept the bison population healthy are also long gone, except for what few wolfies we got now in Yellowstone courtesy of the Canadians, who donated a few. I hope you don't plan to imprison and torture any more animals in the monstrous jailhouses known as "commercial" animal breeding facilities? No, I'm sure you don't Smile

@High Seas,
High Seas, I think most of us are aware of the devastation that's been visited upon the environment and animals. I'm horrified daily as I look for pictures of beautiful animals and see destruction along the way.

I'd really like to keep that off this thread. I'd like it to remain a kind of oasis. People can come to this thread and look at beauty and cuteness and oddness and the wonderful things we have left.

@Roberta,
Two things I think of when I see photos of red tailed hawks, or the hawks themselves -
Red Tail Ale, from northern california, Mendocino area. One beer I can stand to drink.
And Red winged blackbirds. I remember seeing my first field full of them... in the Santa Inez Valley, if I remember.

I know we've had pictures of them here before, but, hey:

@Roberta,
You're right about your thread being an oasis - sorry! Remember how months ago I mentioned seeing a cheetah on Park Avenue? Today I mentioned that to a friend who said there really had been a visiting cheetah making an appearance in one of the children's morning TV shows, so I looked and found a picture:

@Roberta,
He (his name is Majani) doesn't look too happy in Manhattan - it was rainy and cold and windy when he visited. He's happier now back home in San Diego:

I think you're right, HS, that is one disgruntled-looking cheetah, tho I'm not totally sure how you'd tell a disgruntled cheetah from a gruntled one.

And the r-w blackbird shot is just great.

@Roberta,
I wonder if the jackal is guarding some takeout ... some unseen carrion I mean. What a fascinating photograph Roberta.

DJ, sorry have not idea what treats the cheetah-walkers are carrying - I just saw this miserably wet cheetah, on a leash held by a lady, walking along Park Avenue in the rain. Had to pull over, double-park, and ponder whether I was hallucinating - finally decided I wasn't, and drove off. Phew - glad to be right Smile
