@Irishk,
LOL that tortoise is saying, "Dude, seriously, you think you look like a bunny? And let go of my hand. I'm not your type." (Get it? I'm not your type?) Laughing

@Arella Mae,
My exact thought when I first saw the photo!! You can't really tell, but I'm pretty sure that turtle is rolling his eyes lol.

My favorite photo of the day (so far)...
http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01816/birds-hanging-on_1816663i.jpg
Three birds get into a scuffle over a nest, forming a chain link. With its brightly coloured yellow crown, the male, who had built the nest, attempted to break up the disagreement between the two females. Photographer Krishnan Venkitachalam saw the squabble kicking off and trained his lens on the action to capture the scenes before the birds flew off.

@Irishk,
If you had not of posted what was actually going on with those three birds I would never have known it. I looked at this picture and my eyes teared up. I thought, "would you look at that! A momma and a daddy bird both working together to help their baby." It would have been a THUD for me had I not read what was really going on. Stupendous photo no matter what they are doing. For Miss Roberta's sake, might be a good idea to post the description first when it comes to such marvelous photos.

And yes, you are right, turtle was definitely rolling his eyes.

@Irishk,
First I gotta say that after some of the pics yesterday, I'm gonna need some heart paddles, not smelling salts. Gimme a break.

I want to thank you for your kind and wonderful comments about this thread. I love this thread for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is you guys. In honor of the anniversary, I'd like to suggest that we post pictures of our favorite animals, favorite pictures, beloved animals, etc. I'm also planning on posting pictures of animals that I discovered in my hunting for photos for this thread.

Happy anniversary to us all. Whoda thunk that one of my goofy ideas and a little hummingbird would end up a thread with over 350,000 hits. Go figure.

tsar, No deal. I don't trust political felines. I suspect that most cats, even kittens, think they rule the world. Why would they care about a steenkin' president?

Irish, Never did I imagine that a whale could blow bubble circles. Ain't nature grand? Love the little elephant. I think it looks a little scared. Hope not. The bird and the statue is one of the reasons I need those heart paddles. What a stunning, breathtaking shot. Almost speechless over that one. The leopards and the snake. Great picture. Not so much for the snake though. Love the penguin taking a shower. I wonder if it sings. Worrying about the bunny with the cup on its head. Hey, turtle. I'm with you. Rolling my own eyes. The bird battle is an absolutely amazing picture. Amazing I tell ya.

dj, I gotta tell ya that the B&O never fail to make me smile. Dem bunnies is relentlessly, tirelessly, unfailingly cute. The otters are cute, interesting, volatile. Love 'em both.

firefly, Love the seals. Love the bears. But the picture of the birds is a stunner. It looks as if their markings on their faces were exquisitely drawn. Do you know what kind of birds they are?

I'm kicking off the anniversary celebration with a bug I found when I was looking for beautiful insects. The orchid mantis:

dj, The bunny, as always, is a cutie. The baby otter is under arrest. Excessive cuteness in a public place. Thanks for them both.

@Irishk,
Irish, the bunny with the paper cup poses a question - can you see this as a Durer drawing?

Thank you for mentioning the thread anniversary. It's a real endorphin push, plus educational. Roberta is the hostess with the mostest. The rest of the crowd ain't bad either.

Arella Mae, Don't they have smelling salts in New Mexico? By the time I get mine there, osso will be either dead or recovered.

My favorite fish:

Warm blooded (not like a mammal but their body temperature is warmer than the water, these mythic fish give birth to live young. I think they're magnificent.

@Roberta,
We had two German Shepherds at two different times when I was growing up. Roxy and Bruno. Roxy was the best babysitter in the world. She would let no one near us children and was the sweetest dog. Bruno had the thickest tail. He would lay on the porch and wag his tail and I swear the porch was shaking from it. Of course, we are talking memories from when I was extremely young. LOL

Louie the show jumping pig's ambition is to be the star of his owner's dog display team. Just like a real life Babe, this performing pig thinks he is a dog. Nine-month-old Louie goes for walks on a lead alongside his doggie friends, responds to his name and even plays fetch. He will also leap over jumps, weave round poles, sprint through tunnels and tackle moving see-saws as fast as his little legs will carry him...

I've got a frog in my throat...
http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01817/owl-frog_1817673i.jpg
This burrowing owl was left with a huge pair of frog's legs dangling from its mouth when it tried to eat breakfast in one go. The bird struggled to gulp down its prey as it stood in a grassy field. Photographer Michael Cenci took this photo while on holiday near Cape Coral, Florida, US. He was delighted with the picture, which he calls "Frogleg Moustache" because the legs look like a handlebar 'tache.
