Morning New York.Thanks for the kind words folks,I enjoy being here.

He's not much to look at,but this bizarre fruit bat has thrilled scientists. He/she is one of the nearly 200 new creatures found in the rain forests of Papua New Guinea.Experts have yet to decide a formal name so,for the time being,it's a Tube Nose Fruit Bat Nyctimene....

Other new beasties discovered include an orange spider,24 frog species,9 new plants,100 new insects and this little guy with pink eyes and feet....

Chai, Thanks for the two wonderful pics from NatGeo. The fortune teller one is a keeper. I read about the fish with the transparent head. A deep water piscine. Amazing stuff.

Arella Mae, Another polka dotted equine. Love the look of it. I wonder if these horses are crossed somewhere with dalmatians. Nah. Not possible. The white horse is gorgeous, but you knew that.

Barry, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love the look of that newly found bat. It has a sweet, slightly strange face. As for the pink and green bug, I love it. I mean I really love it.

@Francis,
Francis, You're back! It's good to see you. And thanks for the wonderful photo. Is that a sculpture? Real bats? Hard to figure out, but I like looking at it.

The picture is upside down, which is why it looks odd. Bats can't stand like that. Those two hare hanging.

Many things are upside down in life, sometimes for worse sometimes for better..

As for the picture, that's the way Tim Flach wanted it....

This is the first thread I come to in the morning. Such beautiful pictures and they all bring smiles. Even the bats! I think it's pretty obvious they should call that one a Yoda Bat, don't you Barry?

Thanx for all the wonderful pics everyone!

I never would have thought I could think bats were cute but the looks in their eyes are so gentle.

Love these action photos! This is a jackal and a vulture fighting over a juicy bone in South Africa. (The jackal won...barely).

Remember a few pages back where the polar bear was hugging the dog? I think it came from this video.

Surprise! A Sumatra tiger cub born to a mother previously thought to be infertile is in good health at the Frankfurt Zoo in Germany.

Irish, The jackal vulture pic is amazing. I'm kind a surprised the jackal won. Look at the size of that boid. Baby tiger. Beautiful.

I like the look on the lion's face in this one. Not what you'd expect:
