@Izzie,
I love that, Izzie. You've got a snail wandering around where you live? Wow.

Behold the hippopotamus!
We laugh at how he looks to us,
And yet in moments dank and grim,
I wonder how we look to him.

Peace, peace, thou hippopotamus!
We really look all right to us,
As you no doubt delight the eye
Of other hippopotami.

That black lab looks kind of concerned.

@Letty,
your picture reminds me of one of my favourite experiences at the Toronto Zoo, the hippo enclosure was next to the elephant enclosure, in both enclosures were babies, the baby elephant had found a way to have fun with the baby hippo

he'd grab a short branch and poke the baby hippo through a gap between the enclosures, the hippo would cry, the mother would come over and bellow, the mother elephant would come over, bellow and drag her baby away

a few minutes later it would happen again, the elephant and i seemed to enjoy the experience, not so sure about the poor hippo

Thanks for the great photo and the poem, Letty. I have a few words for the critters in the shot.

Hey little guy on the left. Watch out for the strange-looking log on the right.

Hey strange-looking log on the right. Watch out for the giganto mama in the middle.

@djjd62,
I may have posted this elsewhere but here it is again.
We raised Friend-our female bunny-as a lil' wabbit. She grew up with a free reign in the house and yard then moved to a field across the street. After a week she came back for a few minutes to visit and returned back to the field. In another 3 weeks she came back with 3 baby bunnies in tow and stayed for just a few minutes to show them to us. Then we never saw her again. Your bunnies in the field look just like Friend our bunny.

Here is Friend with our dog Dixie(black). Friend would sleep w/him and liked him a lot. Roman(tan) was a big old baby who was delighted with this bunny.

this picture appeared on the cover of the weekly paper The Manitoulin Expositor, wish it was bigger , but it seems they put reduced size images on their web site

http://www.manitoulin.ca/images/2010/june/small-white-fawn.jpg

WEE WHITE ONE: This rare white fawn was spied recently in Campbell Township by a local Hydro One employee. The animal is not a true albino, but rather what is known as a piebald deer—a genetic condition that results in a white coat with brown splotches. Less than 1 percent of white-tailed deer are estimated to have this pigmentation.
