@Roberta,

This photo appeared in our daily newspaper today, the inscription read as follows.
LITTLE SPECK LIGHT AS A FEATHER>
Measuring just 2cm when he was found hiding in the grass, it's no wonder this feathertail glider has earned the name Speck. The cute furry creature, found near Byron Bay, (Australia), is small enough to slip into a matchbox and weighs just 3g. When he was brought to wildlife rescue volunteer Katy Stewart three weeks ago, he was so small she had to use magnifying glasses to see him. "I was just so surprised he was found in the grass, he's so small. The only reason the person found him was because Speck was lying on his back and he has a white tummy", she said. "His head was the size of my little fingernail and his mouth and tongue were so small (when he first arrived) that I had to wear magnifying glasses just to see if it was lapping its milk".

Loved the caracal..

Well, here it is National Duckling Day - which I found out by checking in to see the almost daily magnum photo series that can be found on slate.com.

and here's a nice adult ducky named Foxy, who was a pet of our neighbors:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v722/ossobuco/foxyatthebackdoor116.jpg?t=1274728312

He was an exceptionally good guard duck, honking only at humans as they passed in the back alley. The neighbors' golden retriever used to play at length with the duck, sometimes holding it softly in its mouth. That threw me the first time I saw it. Foxy was also chasing something once and came flying into our house (I forget what he was chasing). We all survived that episode.. although the dining room levolor blinds got a little permanent bend.

If I have my story straight (this was twenty years ago), Foxy went into mourning and hid under our house when their cat died.. We managed to find her (or him, I dunno) and keep Foxy going.

@ossobuco,
National Duckling Day?! They certainly didn't promote that one very well. Never heard of it....

@Roberta,
And when I lived in new york, the bronx, many years ago, I remember us stopping along the (Merritt?) parkway at the ponds, and a duck grabbed my father's cigar..

I never really loved ducks until I lived in Venice.

osso, I've always liked ducks. I think they have personality. Maybe it's the quacking.

@Roberta,
Whale sharks are indeed beauts! I wonder what kind of picture would come out if someone connected the dots? Surprised

It most certainly was... tho to me it looks poiple! Wink We don't get many jellyfish wash up so that was a rare find on the beach. It got put back in the sea and prolly flubberlubbered off into the depths.

Boida - here's my black boy - he found the coolest spot under the Christmas Tree - so happy to have him home - he doesn't leave my side - he's snuggled up next to me now and follows me everywhere. Love him Very Happy Can't tell ya how much I missed him when he was MIA.

Izzie, Too beautiful. Makes me wanna cry. He'd better stick close to you. Thanks, querida, for those pics. I always wanted a black cat. Now I'm a long-distance aunt.

In one pic he looks like a leopard.
