Beautiful in flight and appropriately named, this magnificent bird does indeed appear to be a turkey in costume. He almost seems to be saying, "This flying above the clouds stuff is fantastic, but if that condor ever discovers I stole his suit he will drop me on the rocks in a heartbeat."

gus, bubbele, Good to see you here. Magnificent boid. Wouldn't you like to be able to spread your wings and float on the air? Those are my plans for my next life--should there be one.

Tigershark, I'm aware of the very very smart kea. In Yiddish these birds might be referred to as bonditts--clever, resourceful, beguiling, and mischievous. I've seen films of these birds dismantling cars. Gotta love 'em. Thanks for the pic, kid.

When I was a little Roberta, I used to go to the Bronx Zoo with my father. One of my favorite places was the Jewel Room--a room filled with hummingbirds. True jewels. Thanks, Walter for bringing that back to me.

Let us examine a Colorado potato beetle, hopelessly lost on a stick of celery...

gus, I like that little guy. Of course he's lost. He's a potato beetle. What's he doing with celery? He made a helluva dent in it, didn't he?
