Tigershark, I believe (and I could be wrong; it wouldn't be the first time) that great whites were seen breaching off the California coast. The rubber seal lures were used to get them to do it on cue. It's unlikely that this behavior could be induced simply with a lure. Aside from the fact that the shark has to "conceive" of doing it, the ocean conditions have to be right--considerable depth offshore, e.g., so that the shark can swim down far enough to get the momentum when swimming upward to leave the water.

alex, Thanks for the bird pic. What is it? Heron? Crane? Something else?

Greyhounds are wonderful speedy animals with gentle dispositions. Is your dog a pet as well as a racer, Tigershark?

Not really, he has been reared on a farm by friends of mine, an older Dutch couple who train greyhounds and rear exotic birds for sale. They treat all their animals like pets and they are all happy. My dog, Sam, is doing everything right and should start racing later this year. After his racing days - and hopefully many wins Smile - he will become someone's pet. Maybe mine, though not sure my place is suitable.

I wish you luck with Sam's racing. I agree that greyhounds can be very active pets and aren't for everybody. I went to the dog races when I was in Florida many years ago. I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped. Over very fast--and very quiet. I prefer the sound of galloping hooves, I guess. Won some money though.

Tigershark, Major smiles--and a tiny ache. I miss my cat. But mostly smiles. Additional smiles when I remember my glorious times riding in the mountains. Sigh.

Thanks, kid.

Sorry you lost your cat, pets can leave a big gap when they go.

The old cat seems to strike up relationships with all manner of creatures:

Hey, Tigershark. That's one big mantis. Reminds me of the movie from the 1950s--The Deadly Mantis.

Reg, What a smiling happy little guy. He musta just et a fly.

And now, a green mammal:

The closest you'll get to a real green mammal, a sloth covered in green algae.

rosborne, I'd read that sloths get covered in algae and look green. Didn't think to search one out. Thanks mucho.

osso, There are kids who would kill for such a do. The natural green look.
