Humans have been breeding domestic animals for thousands of years, often without regard to the effects the specialized breeding has on the animals. This is especially true for dogs and cats. Great danes have heart problems; dachshunds have spinal problems; bulldogs and other flat-faced breeds have breathing problems.

It saddens me to know that such animals live with these weaknesses. Sometimes it makes me angry. However, they're here; they exist; they're not going away. Some are quite beautiful.
