You like my Bubo Scandiacus, Francis? I thought you were talking dirty to me. Didn't know I had a bubo scandicus. It turns out I don't. I checked it out. It's a snowy owl.

A snowy owl IS a Bubo Scandiacus

That's what I said. A bubo scandiacus is a snowy owl.

Oh! You mean you don't own a owl...

It's a safe assumption that I don't own a snowy owl.

You said you like my bubo scandiacus. Until I looked it up, I didn't know what one was. I didn't know what you were referring to. Now I do. A snowy owl--in the photo. I like your bubo scandiacus too.

Could not end that discussion without another owl. Here's a northern hawk owl:

Stunning photo, Francis. I'm guessing that's an egret. Maybe a snowy egret.

osso, At first I thought you were referring to jes as a sea butterfly. Then I made the connection with the hamster. Sometimes I'm a little slow on the uptake.

There was no info with this pic. It looks like a frog. I'm guessing it might be a kind of poison-dart frog:

That's a gorgeous picture of a Splash-Backed Poison Frog (Dendrobates Galactonotus)

Here's another pic (not nearly as nice though):

It's a Great egret (Casmerodius alba), Roberta.

The difference between the Great and the Snowy being that the Great has a yellow bill, while the Snowy's black.

The Great egret is almost twice the size of the Snowy egret..

rosborne, Thanks for the frog info and additional picture. I got my frog picture from a photography site instead of an animal site. That may be why there was no info. Dem poison frogs are stunning.

Francis, Thanks for the egret info. I know relatively little and am always happy to learn new things. Great egrets--giant and beautiful birds.

At times, one can't help doing some antropomorphism.

The sad story:

- the small bird was there, laying on the pavement, lifeless,

http://www.cantocidadao.org.br/uploads/image/Blog/passaro4.jpg

- according to the photograph, it's partner, stood around for two hours, not fearing those who approached, not even the photograph, who was pretty close. It sang, its sad song:

http://www.cantocidadao.org.br/uploads/image/Blog/passaro3.jpg

- then flying over its partner dead body, it tried to take the body away:

http://www.cantocidadao.org.br/uploads/image/Blog/passaro.jpg

-but sadly didn't succeed. So it stood by the side of the dead body:

The photograph understood and took the body away from the middle of the road and put it aside.

http://www.cantocidadao.org.br/uploads/image/Blog/passaro2.jpg

Then the bird tried again to revive its companion:

Finally it gave up, with a sad sound in its voice, as if it was a farewell:
