Probably thinking of Bill Clinton. He was on your side of the pond then. Perhaps that explains the mistake?

Um, seems I recall that Bill Clinton opposed the war, maybe you were thinking of Dick Cheney.

Yes, yes, of course, that must be it. I'm sure we could post some names of other rich kids that didn't go, some kids with friends in high places that went to Oxford on a lie, one rich kid with a powerful daddy that did go to Vietrnam but had a body guard.

Perhaps, it would be helpful to post the names of the current Iraq War Hawks who DID go!

Ok, McCain...

Clinton wins a world-famous Rhodes Scholarship, takes it instead of going to VietNam, and they hate his guts.

Cheney goes to law school because he had "other priorities" instead of VietNam-but this is PERFECTLY alright.

Friends in high places was one of the reasons some didn't go either, which was on my list. Ever haer of Senator Fullbright?

You know, I have to hand it to you, Lone Star Madam. You are nothing if not persistent.

The thread is about the impossibility of believing Bush did not see the video of Saddam's execution. So what do we get from you?

First you try to change the subject to Daniel Pearl's beheading. When that didn't work, you change the thread to "antiwar hippies" and we go around on that.

Here's the story. Following is the most important post on this thread. The author is being sarcastic, of course.

Why would Pres. Bush be interested in anything going on in Iraq?

Simple fact is, anybody who seriously believes Bush did not see that video is out of their mind. Iraq is by far the most significant thing of the Bush presidency, and what Saddam Hussein did or did not do has dominated the Bush years. When Saddam was captured, the pro-Bush Fox showed Saddam being checked for fleas and tooth decay every five minutes for several days.

How the hell can even you be so credulous to think that Bush didn't see that video?

I quite agree, KW, and that's why I was quite happy to go along with a change of topic, as this has turned out to be yet another "Did so" Did not" thread.

Of coooooourse, he saw the f-ing video!

The trouble is, if he admits to having seen it, he'll be expected to make full comment regarding the debacle.

.and we all know how good Georgie boy is at ad libbing.

He'll do it in his own time, but wait for his scriptwriters to prepare a large print response, using short words, as usual.

Very carefully scripted, indeed.

This video now replaces the video of the toppling of the statue as the defining image of, if not the war itself, the removal of Saddam. This was supposed to be one of Bush's crowning achievements, instead, it's all turned to ****. What is Snow going to say? "Bush wached the video and realized we managed to even FUBAR the execution of Saddam. "

Actually, if Snow was really, really good he could have pointed out that they got the knot right.

If the execution team doesn't get the knot correct, the hangee dangles on the end of the rope for several excruciating minutes, kicking and twisting while desperately gasping for air.

Russell Baker, a reporter who used to work for the Baltimore Sun, wrote of the executions he covered in Maryland where the prisoner would occasionally work his neck around in the noose so it did not impact very much on his windpipe. As a result, the hanging would take 20 minutes or more with no end in sight. In such cases, people were assigned by those in charge to hang on the condemned man's legs to supply additional weight so the noose could eventually do it's work. As a sign of manhood, sometimes the Sun reporter would volunteer for this to get bragging rights back at the newsroom.

Not this time. One minute Saddam is saying his prayers, then pffffttttt the trapdoor opens and the next thing you see is Saddam's still body. So that part of it went well. I think Snow really missed an opportunity here to help spin this thing to the Administration's advantage.
