I'm here. Got a whopper of a headache. I'm working on uploading some video to YouTube. I'll post a link as soon as I can.

My trip home was interesting, to say the least. My original fight schedule was from Munich to Brussels; Brussels to Chicago; Chicago to Dubuque all on Saturday. The filight from Munich went fine. Got to Brussels with plenty of time to spare. Got boarded on the plane in Brussels and taxied onto the runway. There we sat. About a half hour later, the pilot comes on to report that they are having mmechanical problems. Not to worry, the mechanics think they know what's wrong. Well people, we sat there for another 4 hours waiting for the brain trust at American Airlines to finally give up and admit they couldn't fix it. 4.5 hours on a plane with no food or water. There were babies on that plane!

They sent us to a local hotel and rescheduled the flight for Sunday. I'm sending a complaint to American Airlines. I understand that some compensation is due according to the rules of the European Union.

Other than that, the trip was great! The weather was warm and sunny. I got to meet my future DIL and I love her! I also got to see some of the most beautiful scenery on earth.

That seems to be the norm these days: everyone has horrible stories
to tell about air traveling. At least they put you up in a hotel and paid for
it - when I missed a connection flight due to the airlines fault, they didn't
bother at all. You either spent the night at the airport or pay for your
own hotel (which I did). Airfair becomes more and more expensive and
the service gets more and more lousy.

Enough of that, you're home safe and we are looking forward to your
report and photos/videos.

Hope your headache is gone by now.

They had to do so: by law (plus food and drinks). Additionally, the compensation of 600€.

Really, Walter? I wish that regulation would apply for the US as well.

Lufthansa lost my laguage 2 years ago (for 3 days) - should I have
gotten 600 Euro for pain and suffering?

OK, here we go. First things first. To prove I was indeed in Germany.

This is me on the streets of Flensburg. Flensburg is almost in Denmark.

aawww, great pictures. Finally we see Swimpy, and she's exactly as I pictured her - muy symphatico.
Your daughter-in-law to be is very sweet and pretty. Your son seems a bit shy and demure around her eh? Your "granddaughter" is a bit apprehensive of "Oma" though, right?

Marvellous pics, swimpy!

(And yes, Flensburg is nearly Denmark: they even have a Danish daily newspaper there, and a Danish party ...)

Your granddaughter is gorgeous! Those eyes!

Her mom looks like a sweetheart too. Nice combination of down-to-earth and brainy, seems like.

And of course YOU look fab. I like your new hair color!

Can't leave out your son -- also seems like a good person, sweet smile he's got and from the video seems to be a kick-ass drummer.

Good to see, all of it, thanks!

Fabulous, Swimp. You look wonderful and happy. You son and his fiance are just what I would have expected, and the grandchild is perfect. Only one problem, girl. I had YouTube minimized waiting for my dial up to kick in, and my speakers were turned up too high. When the kids started to play, I almost jumped out of my chair. Razz

Mainly, we are glad that you are home safely in spite of American Airlines, honey.
