The band is called Varsity Drag. They're playing several venues in UK, Germany, Spain and Austria. Click on my website link for the tour dates and locations. We're so excited!

Bostonians of a certain age may remember Ben Diely. He was one of the founding members of the Lemonheads. He was on the band's first three albums, but split just before the band hit the big big time. My son met up with Ben and the rest of Varsity Drag when he moved to San Francisco in the late 1990s. They made a record and then broke up about 6 years ago.

The record was recently picked up by a couple of European labels, as Ben still has fans out there. A German promoter contacted Ben earlier this year with an offer for a European tour. Ben contacted Ian, my son, to check it out since he already lived in Europe. Ian determined that the guy was legit and they gave him the go ahead to start booking gigs for early 2007.

Some time this summer, the promoter quit. Fortunately, some of the gigs had already been booked and there were others who stepped in to book the rest.

So the band is now at Ben's place in Maine rehearsing. The tour kicks off in Frankfort on January 19! Wish we could be there, but it's just not going to work out. If they're in your neighborhood, please give them a listen. Take a picture or two and send them to me, please.

Thanks, osso and boomerang.

You can listen to some songs on the link. They also have a myspace page, but I think the same songs are there as well.

I'll have to go hijack Mr. B's computer so I can give it a listen.

I was just looking at the site - your son is totally cute!

I'm going to send the link to one of my cousins - suggest he sends his kid and nephews. And their cameras.

Maybe I can get hamburger to put a bug in his ear about them as well.

They are in concert in the "crème de la crème" of German youth clubs!
(The nearest for me would be Gleis 22 in Münster - but exactly then we get A2K'ers visiting us ...)

Good luck for them!

They are advertised -locally- as "Varsity Drag [ex-Lemonheads]", btw .... and the tickets for the Münster concert are offered online, nation-/worldwide!

Thanks for that German link Walter.

I've now forwarded that to my cousin as well.

Do you think he'll get the point?
