Supreme Court decision on redistricting

Remember the Texas re-districting party?

Well, here's the latest ruling from the Supreme Court on re-districting. This refers to georgia v Ashcroft, but here it is.

In a 5 - 4 ruling, the Supreme Court held that in drawing legislative boundaries, states can consider overall minority influence, not just the percentage of minority voters in a given district. They reject a republican argument that any lessening of African-American strength in a district is an impermissable retrogression of voting rights. The justices who were the majority were the same justices who had voted that Bush had been elected president, in effect, voting with the democrats against the Bush administration.

One would almost suspect that the Supremes had regretted their earlier Florida vote.

What does this do to the Texas redisticting plans?

But he'd have a problem. Martin Frost down there thinks this was a good decision. It's a slap at the republicans, which is interesting.
