Then today it was reported that Kofi Annan was living in subsidized (free) housing, when he vacated that property, he passed it on to his brother.

Subsidized, yes - free, no. Evident impropriety - well, of course; consider the principles of the principals. No cause for surprise at all.

Kofi's Crash Pad

The Annanklatura

Don't expect much more than some futile ranting to come of this.

The why of why kofi felt he had the right to live large at the expense of NY taxpayers & the denying of poor/moderate income people to have that apt is kofis sense of entitlement. Just more of kofis scamming & putting himself above the law.

Apparently he left that apartment in 1979 and his brother moved in (questionable ethic for sure but also apparently not outside the bounds of the lease agreement)
Are you just hunting for an issue?

With war breaking out all over the planet, our country disgraced in the eyes of the world, our President on the verge of impeachment, and our soldiers dying in a useless conflict I find it hard to find interest in Kofi Annan's apartment situation.

Yes, quite right, it was 1978 when he moved into the apartment. The situation is all above board (questionable ethic as I stated above) but all quite legal.
Still hunting for an issue with Kofi?

"The letter asked Mr Annan for info about UN officials who recieve housing subsidies from their countries of nationality in contravention of their duties, under Article100.1 of the UN Charter to refrain them from any action which might reflect on their position as international official responsibilities to the organization of the UN"
Of course Annan is a man that allowed women & kids, old people to starve in the oil for food deal. Never raised an eyebrow at his own UN peacekeepers raping & torturing women in the Congo, done nothing about the slaughter in Rawanda, has not lifetd a hand or even an eyebrow in regards to Darfur, why should we be surprised that he scammed the citizens of NY & denied poor to moderate wage earners in NY their chance at having an apartment that they could afford. Now Kofi has passed that apt ion to his brother. May they all rot in whatever hell hole the slithered out of.

Created in 1955, the Mitchell-Lama program provides affordable rental and cooperative housing to moderate- and middle-income families. As of January 2006, there were 132 City-sponsored, moderate- and middle-income rental and limited-equity cooperative developments in New York City, which contain approximately 54,000 units. HPD supervises waiting lists, management issues, and has other oversight responsibilities for 50 Mitchell-Lama developments; an additional 82 developments have shared supervision by HPD and the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

To apply for a Mitchell-Lama apartment you must get on the waiting list of the individual development. Note there are occupancy level and income requirements for all Mitchell-Lama Developments. There is NO master waiting list.

"This kind of apatrtment, part of a state regulated housing development program called Mitchell-Lama, is subject to strict eligibility requirements involving family size & financial ceilings on combined family income. There is also a requirement that the leaseholder make continuous use of the apartment as primary residence"
When Kofi was named Sec Gen of the UN, the Un provided him with posh digs, whereupon ""he, loaned the Roosevelt Island Apt (Mitchell-Lama) to his brother, Kobina."
Kofi will now get by with the same crap that he's been getting by with, break the law & thumb his nose at the US. As for the UN Chater, that's a joke.
