The Associated Press is reporting that Vice President Dick Cheney will be called as a witness for the defense in the case against former chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

"We're calling the vice president," the news agency quotes attorney Ted Wells as saying in court. Wells represents Libby, who is charged with perjury and obstruction of justice.

The charges stem from an investigation by Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald into how the name of CIA operative Valerie Plame came to be revealed in the press. The undercover operative's name appeared in a column by conservative columnist Robert Novak just one week after a New York Times column by her husband, ambassador Joseph Wilson, criticized the Bush Administration's handling of pre-war intelligence on Iraq.

Famed reporters Judith Miller and Tim Russert are also expected to testify, though on behalf of the prosecution. An audiotaped interview of former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage conducted by Bob Woodward is also considered likely to be subpoenaed.

I personally have no interest in anything that comes out of the side of his mouth.

Except maybe "I resign"

Cheney has not yet been subpenaed. I wonder whether this might spur a pardon for Irwin Libby.

If Libby is found guilty, he should be pardoned. The culprit is Dick Armitage.

LSM, Libby is being charged with lying, etc., to the FBI. Are you saying that it was Armitage who did that?

Fitzpatrick knew that Armitage was the one that outed the CIA secretary even when he was questioning Libby, so maybe Fitzpatrick should be subpeoned as well.

Cheney has said that will co-operate, no EP claims for Cheney. he's doing his civil duty without going through all kinds of gyrations trying to avoid it.

We will just have to wait and see how willing he is to do his civic duty once he is being cross examined on the stand.

You claim there were all these other items occupying your and your staff's time. Why did you bother to write all these notes on the margins of the Wilson editorial if it wasn't important? Why did you show this to your staff if it wasn't important? Why did you have conversations with your staff about Wilson and his wife if there was so much other important stuff at that time? Do you normally comment on and track down personal information on someone writing in the papers? Wouldn't the fact that you did just that point to the fact that you thought Wilson was important?

And of course..

You do know the penalties for perjury, don't you Mr Vice President?

Cheney knows full well that Libby has the goods on him. So he has to defend Libby, or else.

I can't wait to see whether the lawsuit by Plame and Wilson goes forward. The suit would survive any pardons.

Plame & her tattle tale husband are suing the wrong people. this suit will never amount to anything cause Wilson is as guilty as anyone for outing his wifes CIA secretaries position. They have said that they're considering suing Armitage as well. But for now they're off to New Mexico to help Bill Richardson....gawd help him.

Ah, the prattle of the Fox indoctrinated. Wilson had nothing to do with "outing" his wife. There is no evidence to support that. All the RW wailing and beating of their chests doesn't change the facts in the case.
