Are "we" winning the war in Iraq?

"No sir," Robert Gates, nominee to be the next Defense secretary, just told Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Asked by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to repeat that statement, Gates said "that is my view, yes sir."

Levin praised Gates for that "refreshing breath of reality."

We'll pass along other headlines from the hearing as they happen.

Time to Cut and Run ?

The only folks who have benefited from the war in Iraq are the defense contractors, period, end of discussion.

The only interest this administration had was "liberating" the oil from the region, not the region's people, and it is backfiring, big-time.

As the cynic, my frank observation is that Robert Gates has established himself perfectly by stating that the U.S. is losing the war in Iraq. His confirmation is now sure to be a shoe-in among the democrats in Congress.

After being confirmed, he can say what he pleases.
