Haggard stepping down amid gay affair inquiry
By Eric Gorski
Denver Post Staff Writer

Ted Haggard, president of the National Association of Evangelicals and founder and leader of the Colorado Springs-based New Life Church, stepped down Thursday following allegations that he has had a three-year homosexual affair with a male prostitute.

Mike Jones, a self-professed male escort, talked publicly of the affair Wednesday morning on KHOW radio. Haggard denied the affair Wednesday night to KUSA Channel 9News.

But today, Haggard stated he could "not continue to minister under the cloud created by the accusations made on Denver talk radio..."

After consulting with his spiritual counsel and the church's board of overseers, Haggard said, "I am voluntarily stepping aside from leadership so that the overseer process can be allowed to proceed with integrity. I hope to be able to discuss this matter in more detail at a later date."

In the interim, the church's associate senior pastor, the Rev. Ross Parsley, will serve as acting senior pastor of the church.

Haggard's lawyer, Martin Nussbaum, emphasized that Haggard has not admitted to the affair.

Nussbaum said the church's bylaws state that if an allegation of immorality is made, the proper action is for Haggard to step down and put himself on leave.

The Colorado Springs church, with 14,000 members, is the largest New Life congregation in Colorado.

REPUBLICAN HOMOSEXUAL RING WIDENS REVEREND HAGGARD MADE 35 TRIPS TO THE PRIVATE RESIDENCE OF THE WHITE HOUSE ALONG WITH MALE PROSTITUTE JEFF GANNON

Reverand Ted Haggard, the head of the Evangelical Ministry and chief spokesman for Bushfraud and the Republican National Committee, has admitted tonight to a three year homosexual relationship with a male prostitute.

Haggard, of course resides in Colorado; the Box Nest for FBI Div 5 and the National Headquarters for what we now know as the pedophile ring.

Of course, supplying these prostitutes is none other than NBC's Wm Morris Agency out of Denver Colorado. That's right folks NBC General Electric: Pimps More Than Light Bulbs.

It can now be reported that the clientele list nationwide includes some of the following: William Frist (R. Tenn.), Charlie Crist (R.Fla), Robert Dryer(R.Ca.), Trent Lott(R. Miss.), and, of course, the Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman. All of them in the closet.... MORE

blueflame- I suppose that if a person reads the National Enquirer at the supermarket checkout aisle, he might find your link credible. There are plenty of reports from more respected news sources to have to resort to that webrag!

(playing devil's advocate)...so, because it's widespread, that makes it true? Would like to see how this sorts out before I judge.

I know. I have already posted a link on another, similar, thread. My issue is that there is enough credible evidence in mainstream papers. That site that you quoted is journalism at its lowest.

Ragman, I have no idea whether the story is true or not. But his resignation is big news considering the powerful position of Haggard as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and his White House connection.

Haggard's sex accuser fails polygraph

By Rocky Mountain News
November 3, 2006
Mike Jones, the gay former male escort who said Thursday he and evangelist Ted Haggard had had a three-year sexual tryst, underwent a polygraph test this morning and the results were revealed on the Peter Boyles show. According to the polygraph administrator, Jones' responses indicated deception.
Haggard has denied the allegations, but has stepped down from his duties as head of the National Association of Evangelicals. Haggard said he also resigned as senior pastor of the 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs to clear the way for an unbiased investigation of the charges by church authorities.

Jones said he would be willing to undergo a second examination.

The administrator said he would like Jones to get some rest, eat well and take a second test. Jones said he was suffering a migraine headache and got only two hours sleep, which may have affected the results.

KUSA-TV reported Thursday night that a voice analysis expert compared a voice mail recording provided by Jones to a recording of Haggard's speech and that they matched, supporting Jones claim the two had monthly sexual liaisons for the past three years.

I understand that he has some influence in the heirarchy of evangelicals and with Pres. Bush and his advisors, but my curiousity has me wondering whether or not his influence holds any sway over politcal matters (and how far) or just over spirtual matters. He claims to be in touch with Bush or his advisors on an 'every-Monday' regularity.

News excerpt:

"On November 2, 2006, Mike Jones, a male escort, alleged that Haggard, whom he knew as "Art", paid for sex with him during trysts which had been taking place between them on an almost monthly basis over the course of the previous three years.

Further, Jones said Haggard snorted methamphetamine before their sexual encounters to heighten his experience. KUSA-TV released voice mails, in which a person purportedly Haggard, said "Hey, I was just calling to see if we could get any more. Either $100 or $200 supply." Jones said "supply" referred to methamphetamine. ~ Associated Press, November 2, 2006. Retrieved on 2006-11-03.

Later on November 2, Haggard stepped down as president of the National Association of Evangelicals. ~ Colorado Springs Gazette, November 2, 2006. Retrieved on 2006-11-03.

In addition, the Rocky Mountain News stated that Haggard had stepped down as pastor and quoted him as saying, "I am voluntarily stepping aside from leadership so that the overseer process can be allowed to proceed with integrity. I hope to be able to discuss this matter in more detail at a later date. In the interim, I will seek both spiritual advice and guidance."
~Associated Press, November 2, 2006. Retrieved on 2006-11-03.

On November 3, 2006, senior church officials told KKTV 11News that Haggard has admitted to some of the claims made by Jones."

This is a church leader and may certainly make some disturbances within his church (and private life), but what do elections have to do with such a - more - private issue?

From squinney's link, "Jones also said that Haggard did drugs.

"And he had told me he loved snorting meth before [he] has sex with his wife," Jones said."

Walter- Aw com'on. The Evangelicals have been electioneering against gay marriage. Don't you think that if it is confirmed that one of the bigwigs in the movement was having gay sex, don't you think that it might have political implications????

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for the Christian Right / Evangelical's that have fallen for all this tripe about Republicans being the moral politicians that will save us from Gods Soddom and Gomorrah style wrath.

Makes me think of that bubble wrap stuff that no one can resist.

Well, I sincerely doubt it would influence the elections here or in France, the UK, even not in Italy, Portugal or Spain.

And honestly, I doubt such for the USA as well.

Walter- Right now, both the Democrats and the Republicans are scrambling mightily..................the Republicans to keep their majority in Congress, and the Democrats to attain a majority. A few changes of heart among the "undecideds" could make a great deal of difference in the makeup of the next Congress.

I know, but what has such to do with a church leader who perhaps had sex with a male prostitute or the cold coffee in a London tearoom?

From blueflame's link:

Quote:
Whitworth said that while he directed Ground Zero about a decade ago, he received a 10- to 12-page letter that accused Haggard of having a sexual affair with a man. Whitworth said it was not his policy to use unsubstantiated claims, and he believes he threw the letter away.

"The interesting thing is Ted Haggard called me and asked me if I had received such a letter, and we had a conversation. I said, 'Ted, I don't go for character assassination."'

My husband is always telling me to hold on to documentation. I have a tendency to throw things away, and we have a running discourse about the issue. Now if Whitworth had held on to that letter...................
