aquafine iron filter causes pump to lose prime

Reply Tue 31 Oct, 2006 07:23 am
hello I had changed out my pressure tank and when changing the tank I neglected to install the venturi , after a few months ( 3 or 4 ) I noticed the water becomming yellow , bought a new venturi last week and that solved the water from yellowing , but now when my aquafine iron system backwashes i lose the prime in the pump , I can hear the water going down the drain but after about 1 minute the pump kicks out , I cleaned the pressure valve located just before the iron tank and I do here air leaving the valve so I know thats working , I also checked the venturi and it is drawing air for approx a third of the time it tanks to fill the pressure tank so I know that is set correctly , but I can't figure out why I would lose the prime ? it worked well for backwashing before I installed the venturi , when the water softener backwashes I don't lose the prime either ? any ideas ?

thanks

I'm serious about H2OMAN. He is a legend around these parts and his knowledge of water softeners rivals only that of Bernie Lipscomb, out of Cleveland.

But Bernie doesn't post on this board.

You have come to the right place, andy, and I will make sure all of your questions are answered. I will monitor this thread until H2OMAN or farmerman comes along and helps you out.

I'm not sure about farmerman though. He's a wizard with dirt but I am not sure of his knowledge of water-related stuff.

But, hell, what do we have to lose?

I'm not a well guy, but I'll ask a few questions...

Is all of your water treatment equippment installed after your pressure tank?
Does the iron filter have a flow restrictor on the drain? 5 gpm?
What venturi are you speaking of?

Can you post a picture or two?

h2o man
all is located after the pressure tank , the venturi ( mazi valve ?) is located on the line before the pressure tank , I don't see a flow restrictor and I am not sure if the valve off the pressure tank is broken or off the scale ? I am not sure how to show pics ? they ask for a url but I have them on my desktop , hope your better soon

Andy, that was friggin' hilarious.

When he said, "I'm not a well guy" he was refering to water wells, not his state of health.

Funny stuff.
